Thought I'd check to see if anyone else had come across this issue...

I've a few school IT techs reporting problems with their HP K850 printers where they appear to have used a 3rd party cartridge and promptly hit problems with the head failing after a days use.

I'm guessing that the K850 printheads are similar in design to the HP88's in that they contain ink in them and that it's likely that the ink from the cartridge is reacting badly with the ink in the head causing a clog or simply that the ink in the cartridge is poor quality and clogging regardless.

Anyone got any input on this?

Would a nice printhead clean help if done before installing the compatible inkjet cartridges? I guess if there is no ink on in the printhead the 3d party ink wouldn't have anything to react with. Any truth in that statement?

Just as a follow-up.. It seems that the problem was a poor 3rd party ink from a company called Inkjets & Toners. Replacing OEM carts and running a cleaning cycle with a nearly new printhead seemed to solve the problem.
