the first image is printed on regular paper immediately after the second image on the same printer.

the second image is printed on DI-LASER film and has some blurring or watermarking.

the printer is a HP Laserjet 5100.

I'm trying to figure out what is causing the bleeding issue.

DI-LASER film
A light sensitive film (not paper) that uses a medical dry laser printer in a two step process to print xrays.
  1. A laser light is used to "expose" the film with the desired xray image file.
  2. Heat is then applied to "develop" the film.
This tech replaces wet/aqueous silver solution printing of xrays. Very cool.

Very different process than a home/business class typical laser printer like your HP Laserjet 5100. You are bound to have different printed results.

See Page 3 for a brief explanation of the process of these dri laser printers.:

Googled "DI-LASER film" and that's what I got. Printing with laser beams sounds more fun than an ordinary laser printer. :idunno

Good luck with your printing.

i guess it's a proprietary Davis product. I've had this issue before but not consistently. an ordinary laser printer still uses lasers!

Yes, lasers are used. But very different processes.

Home laser printer
https://www.explainthatstuff.com/laserprinters.html

Medical dry laser imagers
Use a photosensitive film that the lasers applies it light directly onto the film creating the image. The film then travels over a drum that heats the film to develop the film image. No toner is used.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3137864/

Very different ways the two printers use a laser to create an image.
