How long to dry after purging?

I purged my CLI-8pm yesterday and this is how it looks like after 10hr drying:

I used paper towels to remove water from the sponge but as you see there are still some water drops in the reservoir. Usually I wait until water completely disappears before refilling, it normally takes about 4 days, but I wonder if I really have to do that. What's your experience?

I usually shake the water down into the sponge, by swinging the cartridge vigorously from the elbow, for a couple of minutes. This usually clears all the water through the hole at the bottom of the cartridge, between the clear section and the foam section.

I then wick the foam dry with paper towel for about ten minutes, until the paper no longer becomes damp. You can see the water clearing from the foam as you go, it gets slightly lighter.

I then refill with ink.

Interesting, I'll try that.

Anyway I ended up refilling the cartridge before water drops disappeared in the cartridge and it did not result in any unusual behavior. No color shift, etc. I guess it's actually safe since ink is water based anyway and volume of water in the drops is nothing compared to the ink in the cartridge.

The water in the spongeless side in your picture is negligible as long as you do not need the highest quality printout, such as for selling a print or a very discriminating palate. All of that moisture will become completely irrelevant within 2-3 refills.

After flushing a cartridge, shake, blow through the top air vent, and/or use ghwellsjr's paper towel wicking method. You should get enough water out of the cartridge to refill in an hour or less depending on your tolerance for color accuracy and longevity. If you don't like the results then use a syringe to suck out all ink, blow through the top air maze vent to remove ink from the sponge if desired, and replace with fresh ink. This will lessen the water dilution factor immediately.
