The history of a Canon-Printer-junkie.
Ive owned printers before IBM made PCs. But, I will start this story at the time I bought a new Canon MP500 all-in-one on clearance. After buying it and before I installed it, I found the printer could not be refilled unless something was disabled. So, I sealed the box back up and put it in storage. In checking this ink site forum from time to time, there was little progress in defeating the CLI-8 cartridge chip. I think it has been about a year ago that I discovered that the chips could be reset. I installed the MP500 printer, and it was just what I needed. Later, I did buy a set of 3rd party cartridges, but the black text was unreadable. So, I decided the time has come to refill my own.
I bought a resetter on E-bay, and found some ink at a swap meet. I then discovered that I needed another set of OEM cartridges to do it right. This is where the Canon-holic starts.
At a thrift store I saw an iP4300 that had the OEM cartridges I needed. I bought it only for the cartridges because I was sure that the printer would not work for one reason or another. To my surprise after cleaning the head and replacing some cartridges, the printer works great.
Then, some weeks later, a MP600 with the same story, it too works great.
And again the same story an iP6600D works great.
Finally a thrift store purchase of an iP6700D that I have cleaned the print head but not tested it. The iP6700D was the only one with no cartridges. All the other printers had OEM cartridges.
You get the idea, I have too many printer, so what did I do, I buy a Canon Pro9000 Mark II, and then a second one on Craigslist to have another set of ink and a print head. I think you would agree I have it bad!!
If you made it this far, you now know I will have to update my profile.

I think thats a stupid question, But seeing as you asked.
Its a real repetitive passion that all collectors suffer from and dont necessary want a cure for.:weee

Its a lovely feeling you should try it sometime and then you can enjoy the warm glow too.
A surgery full of medicine (ink) and a room full of patients (printers) who could ask for more..:hugs

You posted the question when's the next *fix* on Oct 14th. Today the 15th I got my next *fix*. I bought (again at the same thrift store) a Canon iP4300. Why did I buy it, or maybe a better question would be, how can you justify buying another Canon iP4300. The first three reasons I bought it are-
1. The price was right at $10.
2. All the cartridges were FULL and OEM.
3. I wanted a backup print head for my Canon MP600 (both use the same head).
So, that was my *fix* for this week. We will see what next weeks *fix* will bring.

P.S. Without a cleaning cycle, the nozzle check was perfect, and a Canon high quality setting for a picture on 4 by 6 Canon Photo Paper Pro II also printed perfectly.

As to he question "Why do you collect so many printers?"

Answer: Because I can and because I love printing Images!!!
Really dude! It's a great hobby and I love the adventure of finding a great but ignored printer originally costing many hundreds of $$$ for a tiny fraction, getting them back to printing great images. There no greater joy for s printing junkie. I share them with my daughter who is the graphic artist in the family. I am, on the other hand the Photographer in the family.

I might be characterized as a vice, but I could name off many worse ones!
I am certain these will not be the only ones in my future I'm quite sure!

It's probably getting close to when iP4500s start showing up at thrift stores. I may have to stop in and check it out.
