Hello,

My printer just started behaving weird. Not printing in a straight line.

Its as if it cuts the words in two and nearly places it ontop of the other half.

Any help will be appreciated.

Its a canon ip4700

Thanks alot

Yes. For the moment I'm looking for a link to the service manual. The error is possibly caused by a dirty timing disk or dirty timing disk optical sensor.

The timing disk is a transparent disk with fine engravings which are read by an optical sensor. It detects the rotation of the paper feed rollers and thereby the line feed. If the disk or sensor are dirty, the line feed can go totally wrong.

The timing disk and sensor is seen on page 22/24 in the simplified service manual which is found here: http://www.gondack.com.ar/media/useruploads/files/ip4700-ssm.pdf

To gain access to the timing disk and sensor you will need to remove the cover from the printer. You find some instruction in the service manual and a more detailed instruction here: http://www.druckerchannel.de/artike...entank_bei_canon_pixma_ip4600_ip4700_tauschen or in English: http://translate.google.dk/translat...entank_bei_canon_pixma_ip4600_ip4700_tauschen

It might not be necessary to remove the printer chassis from the bottom part of the cover, as described in the German instruction to gain access to the timing disk. After having removed the cover, try cleaning the timing disk with a window cleaner with ammonia like the original "Windex with Ammonia_D" or other brand on a piece of soft tissue paper, and reassemble the printer. Hopefully this will correct the error.

I wonder if the document is printed in landscape orientation instead of portrait orientation. If so the error is most likely caused by the timing strip controlling the print head movement. The timing strip is not shown in the service manual or the German instruction, but it is a transparent plastic strip that passes through slits in the print head carriage. This can also be cleaned with window cleaner on a piece of soft paper. Be very careful not to tear the strip.

In the German instruction it is seen that the iP4600/4700 has got two timing disks. Clean them both, Image here: http://www.druckerchannel.de/cache_...ernen_sie_zunaechst_diese_schraube_l3cc87.jpg
