After installing refilled ink carts, what should be done: cleaning? alignment? nozzle check? The manual for Canon iP3000 says these things should be done when certain problems are occurring, but I can't find info on whether they should be done routinely after installing new or refilled carts.

Generally, printhead alignment isn't necessary when replacing an ink cart. If you let a cart empty to the point where you get the low ink warning, when you replace it the printer runs a cleaning cycle. If you replace the carts before getting the warning some people recommend that you run a cleaning cycle to "prime" the cart and be sure the ink is flowing on demand.
