Fix for Epson Artisan 1430 printing black & whites with poor results and greenish hue

I have an Artisan 1430 here that prints color images flawlessly. However, when I shifted to black and white prints, they print incredibly poor and are covered with a greenish hue over many parts. Has anyone encountered this before? The head was serviced and cleaned with a flawless nozzle check. I've checked my settings in photoshop, the printer driver print settings page, and searched. I found a confirmation that this is a known issue with the 1430, but with nothing concrete for a resolution. If anyone could help, I'd love to hear what the fix would be. I have a ton of ink for this printer that I need to use.

how you you print the B/W images - via the B/W mode in the driver or with an icc-profile but the image itself is converted to grayscale ? Please post a nozzle chck. What are your driver settings , what paper(s) are you using - glossy - matte ? What type of ink are you using - refill ? Brand ?

There are several options you should try and test - just use smaller pieces of paper and select a section in your image where the color cast is most visible, you may go down to 4 x 6 inch pieces.

Use the Epson prem Semigloss and select the B/W - grayscale option in the driver, this should deliver pretty neutral prints. and test as well the ICM option for that paper, convert the image to grayscale and print, compare and report your findings. This mode would allow you to do some pre-print adjustments e.g. enhancing the local contrast in some area,

Could you try to print with other software - not PS - and don't use the 'printer manages color' option. Please post a nozzle check as well.

Hello.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1500W printer with ORIGINAL INK (this is the same Epson Artisan 1430, the name depends on the region, the manual and service manual are the same)
Try this:
1.Disable color management in Photoshop (important)
2.Convert the image to grayscale using Photoshop.
3.Install photo paper into the printer and click the Print button in Photoshop.
4.You should see a printer driver window open.
5.Go to the Advanced tab.
6.Select the desired paper type, photo quality and size.
7.Select (check the box) High Speed, Print Preview and Grayscale.
8. Gamma - at your discretion, you can select it later experimentally.
9.Click the OK button and send for printing.
10.I get a neutral black and white image of high quality.

There is another way to print in black and white on these printers (ONLY a black cartridge is used!!! the quality is satisfactory, the raster of the print head is barely noticeable)
The method was described on a website that is now unavailable:
www.photosnowdonia.co.uk/ZPS/epson1400-B&w.htm

1.Disable Color Management in Photoshop.
2.Convert the image to grayscale using Photoshop.
3.Install photo paper into the printer and click the Print button in Photoshop.
4.You should see a printer driver window open.
5.Go to the Advanced tab.
6.Select the desired
paper type - PLAIN PAPER (important)
photo quality - Photo RPM Max dpi (important) and size.
7.Select (check the box) High Speed, Edge Smoothing, Print Preview and Grayscale.
8. Gamma - 1.8
9.Click the OK button and send for printing.
Since only a black cartridge is used, the image is pure black and white.

There will always be a clever fool who will discuss not the subject of discussion, but the personality of the interlocutor.
