Hello All,

I am a new memeber here (steered here by Trigger1937) and have been reading old posts regarding the above error message(?) Him and I and the other forum memebers have tried working out this problem on the Fixyourownprinter forum but no luck yet http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/31149#263 We are still trying but in the meantime I have purchased the iP3500 (also a great reccomendation by Trigger). As I mentioned, I have used the search function and have been reading old posts...however, I was wondering if there has been any progress figuring out this problem (after a simple cleaning in hot water with a smidgin of isopropyl alcohol mixed in and blew it dry with a can of compressed air.) of the 5 blinking orange lights. I am almost ready to try ordering a new printhead but some of the older posts indicate that this was not always successful. Anyway, thanks for any input.

This error message indicates a defective print head or printhead not installedl/installed correctly. The documentation that came with my i960 printer suggests cleaning the electrical contacts on the back of the printhead. As far as I know, washing out the printhead is a fix for clogged nozzles and would not do anything to cure this error. In fact, agressive cleaning can possibly leave residue on the contacts, and I have read that you can also damage the electronic elements in the printhead with incorrect cleaning. From what you've posted, it sounds llike you were very careful with your cleaning. In addition, Triggerd is very knowledgeable and would be a good source of information and help.

Look back in the posts for cleaning the printhead contacts. I think I recall someone using a pencil eraser to be sure the contacts are clean, followed by a rub with a dry cloth. You should also be sure that the springy contacts in the carriage where the printhead is mounted are all working and clean. Let's see if someone who has already solved the electrical contact problem will post how he/she did it. Fortunately, I haven't encountered this problem as yet.

I would still try to keep the i960 functioning if possible. I've replaced the printhead on mine once and it is still going strong. From what I've read, the ip4500 is an excellent printer and produces very nice photo prints. I have an ip5000 that I've also used for printing photos and the quality is excellent. It is also a four dye-based ink plus one pigment-based ink printer with one picoliter nozzles like the ip4500. It has only been "fed" Imaging Specialist" inks from Computer Friends, then MIS, and now Precision Colors. No problems and very good color rendition.
