had my first "in the printer" ink leak yesterday. was in a rush, refilled all 5 of my canon carts quickly. overfilled my PGI5 cart, saw some go into the sponge side, so i sucked some out and thought i'd be fine. tried a test print and at the bottom of the page was a bunch of wet ink. opened the printer up and saw some dripping down where the printed sheets are delivered.

cleaned up the printer, examined the PGI5, nothing unusual, so i put it back in, printed a page and same mess.

cleaned up again, put in a new PGI5 and all was fine. lesson to be learned, take your time and avoid overfilling.

the PGI5 that i tossed out had been refilled 72 times, so i figured it was time to give it a rest.

You refill using the German method, right? Did you seal the refill hole? Have you determined where the leak came from, either the outlet port or the refill hole?

german method, no seal of refill hole.

no ink leak near the refill hole, so ink apparently dripped out of the outlet port.

i probably could have kept using the old PGI5 once the drips stopped, but figured after 72 refills it was time to swap in a new PGI5

just hit my 200th refill, german method w squeeze bottles

That's an amazing achievement, Jim. Think of how much money you have saved then tossing one cartridge is not so bad.
