I purchased an Epson Surecolor P900 two years ago that has always exhibited the following problem that occurs with every type of paper. I’m getting two small parallel indents (~2″ apart) on the leading edge of prints. This happens on Canson Infinity Rag Photographique 210 gsm and 310 gsm, via rear fine-art feed, borderless and with margins (these are my most commonly used papers); as well as other types of papers.

I have tried adjusting:
  • Platen gap: Standard → Widest
  • Margins: up to 15 mm
  • Front vs. rear fine-art feed
  • Reduced color density
  • Cleaned rollers
Marks appear before the image area, always in the same spots. I suspect these are pinch/exit rollers, but am surprised it happens even with thick stock and generous margins.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there any fix—settings, service adjustment, or roller disable—for fine-art matte media? I'm getting close to buying another printer, e.g. the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100, because I can't exhibit or sell prints with this problem.

These indents are probably the beginning of a lot of issues. And end of your printer.

I know my P900 died not so long ago.

The two indents come from the paper transport mechanism from the sheetfeeder. If you look very good on the surface of your paper then you could see a faint streak with the same width of the indents. Thus even more unsellable or exhibit!

It ended up with a terrible paper transport pickup, and transport at printing time. And got also headstrikes during printing. In the beginning only at the edge. The last and the final was also over the true print surface.

I don’t know the age of your P900? But mine was just 3 year old.

I’m now waiting for my new SC P5300 to arive. And this one is a true professional printer with a true profesional paper transport mechanism.
