As per title. Does anyone know how to disassemble the Canon MP530 Scanner glass? I would like to clean the scanner glass underneath.

I could disassemble the printer housing such that the scanner housing is detach from the printer housing. But I just couldn't figure out the way to open up the scanner section to reach to the glass.

Thanks in advance

Why would you want to clean the underside? Nothing touches it. How would it get dirty?

You'd be surprised. These mulitfunctionals are not air tight.

Hi lin

I don't know if you find any useful info in the service manual and parts catalog, but they can be viewed on line here for free: http://www.scribd.com/doc/60846471/Pixma-MP530-Service-Manual-Canon and: http://www.scribd.com/doc/60846370/Pixma-MP530-Parts-Catalog-Canon . To download the manuals you will have to log in or join the site. A Facebook log in can also be used to log in to the site.

Here are some links in case you want to buy a download: http://buyamanual.com/product.php?id_product=157 http://www.2manuals.com/advanced_se...s_id=6&keywords=MP530&search_in_description=1 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-MP530...=990149781123156486&pid=100015&prg=1017&rk=1&

I've got an old HP scanner which it is not hermetically sealed and the glass has become a little foggy on the underside, probably due to tobacco smoke, so I think it is not uncommon for scanners to need inside cleaning.

Good luck with the project.
Peter.

Hi PeterBJ, those manual just show how to dismantle the printer but doesn't show how to dismantle the scanner section part. I need to reach to the scanner glass to clean the glass and calibration strip.

Anyone who has ever dismantle it before or knows how to open up the scanner section do let me know. I tried to pry open the panel (the one which had the buttons) but still couldn't open it up. Don't know where is the hook inside or where I should pry open the scanner section.

Obviously there is a need which is why I asked.
Apart from the molds spots, Something is wrong with the scanning calibration. Horizontal strip and colourful patterns. So it needs to clean.

Would it be possible to acquire another 530 printer and just swap the lids over..? :)

Hat, that is a viable option also. But I would also risk getting printer used by someone who didn't know how to clean their scanner and ended with another problem calibration strip.

You see sometime some people doesn't know about the calibration strip. And for MP530, the calibration strip is so near to the edge. So if they had spray the water directly onto the glass or uses a very damp cloth to wipe the scanner glass, those water may seep into the calibration strip and ruin it.

THe MP530 I had was given to me and how the user handle the scanner is unknow to me.
