Density to dilution conversion

Hello,

Is there a (simple way) to convert density ratio into ink dilution? For instance, I have a black ink with a given max visual density when printed: in what porportion should I dilute it to, for instance, obtain half this density?

Thanks for your answer. I think it is possible according P.Roark formulas (water+glycerol+surfactant...). I would like to replace CMYK inks in an ET 1810 with different shades of gray, each shade of gray having (more or less) the same visual density as the replaced colored ink. I have measured with a colorimeter what I think is the equivalent black density of CMY, and the last step is to make these shades of gray by mixing black ink with the am dilution mixture...
Even if I have an idea of the the dilutions, I would like to be more "scientific" :)

P. Roark works with 100, 30,18,9,6,2 % - thats the closest i can get to science. Roark You have a 4 channel printer. I would choose 100, C=30, M=18, Y=2 %%
