Looking at the state of the purge unit, I’d say it has never been cleaned before, drown the whole area in Windex and mop or wipe up some of the muck especially around the wipers, use cotton bud to get into some of the area.

Flood the purge pads several times and let the printer run the pump to see if it will unblock the pipework’s to get the unit working again..

Well, it is finally fixed. Thanks Hat for the suggestions. They led me to the problem.

I flushed out the pump the other day but it still wouldn't print. Nothing at all. This morning when I first turned it on it printed a little tiny bit, but after running a cleaning there was nothing again. Maddening!

I figured the problem had to lie with the cleaning of the head, perhaps the pads weren't sealing against the head. I decided to remove the entire apparatus to see if there was something broken or out of sync. I verified the pump was working then cycled the mechanism a few times. It did seem like the wiper was out of sync so I moved it to engage the gears. I put everything back together and Bob's your uncle! It printed a nearly perfect test sheet. One normal cleaning later it was perfect.

One of my original ideas was the pads weren't sealing against the head. I think that is what the problem was. I'm glad I persevered. I was on the verge of tossing it this morning.
