Canon PIXMA iX6550 ?

Hi guy's I haven't been on here for sometime but I'm still refilling my carts OK

I was looking at A3 printers but don't want to spend big bucks .
I've seen the Ix6550 printer going for as little as £140 which on the face of looks like a good deal.

I believe I'm right in saying it will take 521 and 550 carts ?. I use these at present so that would be great if possible.

Anyway is it a good printer?

The only problem that I can see with this iX6550 is the small carts, because you’ll be using A3 stock, so more frequent filling, but if your happy using them then that’s all that counts, at least it doesn’t use the 551 carts which are a refillers nightmare..

I have one.
It is a basic, light built printer but it prints very deep colours on glossy paper, even with 5 cartridges, and A3+.
Uses 525/526 carts.
Shares the same print head with the popular MG5250 (scout used ones on the cheap for spare heads).
£ 140 seems expensive to me, it was only € 155 new at the time (paid mine € 55 second hand).

I have a MG5350 which I use 521 / 550 carts in and change over the chips so they will work.I prefer those carts with the window for refilling . Plus that way I don't need to get a new chip resetter

£140 new is the cheapest I've found so far in ripoff UK

I'll look around for second-hand ones.

@Ash, Whatever you pay for the printer ,it will still be well worth it to have both machines using the same cartridges and inks, it's a much neater package and will help to keep the costs of refilling down greatly, I reckon a win win situation..

Both printers use 525/526 chips (and the same print head), a perfect combination.

No problem to use 520/521 carts with transplanted chips, didn't known this can be done with 550 carts.

@The Hat, you can place 525/526 chips in 520/521 carts and use them in MG5250, MG5350, IX6550, isn't it ?

The advantage of the transparant reservoir IMO is small if you use the German method, since you keep the carts upside down first and can see the ink rising via the prism window.

I don't think there were so many sold, but patience is a virtue (and I agree mine was a very lucky shot).
Was £ 140 for a new one ?
Reasonable after all since on amazon.co.uk there is a stock of 35 at £ 159.74.
Later models (MG8750) were much more expensive since they had wifi and cloud, but the same mechanics.
