Tudor will I be able to reset them or they become damaged in some way and non-resetable?
When you get yourself a resetter your cartridges will work just like new again..:)

@gigigogu: I'm considering Inktec and ImageSpecialists. If I don't receive really good feedback on the Inktec ink then I'll try and buy from websnail.
IS+KMP pigment+resetter - 59euro from octoink (if there are no additional taxes beside shipping)
Inktec+resetter - 48 euro locally
The IS + KMP Pigment Black combination sounds like an excellent choice. Of the forum members who have used KMP Pigment Black ink, the consensus is that the black is deeper than even Canon OEM and is just as highlighter streak proof. I do recall reading several years ago that InkTec may have better UV light protection, but all aftermarket inks pale in comparison to OEM Canon ink. (pun intended) But that was years ago and I don't know how IS and InkTec compare today with their newer ink formulations.

While I have not tried KMP Pigment Black yet, the IS Pigment Black works well enough for me. It does not streak when using a highlighter. I will try KMP after my current IS ink runs out... as long as shipping costs from the sunny shores of England and the devalued dollar do not dissuade me at that time. :somad

I have been using InkTec ink since November, 2010 on my Canon PIXMA MX870 printer. I have had no problems with the ink. If you intend to refill carts, please read the follow points:

1. Stuff happens. You can do everything right when refilling a cart and still have a leak, bad nozzle test, bad print, etc.stuff happens!

2. Carts were not meant to be refilled. See #1 above.

3. Use OEM carts.

4. Use silicone plugs. You may need a low-cut cap on the silicone plug. Check this forum to see what plug works best on your printer. I use hot wax. I will switch to silicone plugs sometime in the future. Do not use tape if you what a permanent seal. Tape is O.K. for an emergency seal only.

5. Use squeeze bottles. You may want to use a syringe. Check this forum for what to use.

6. DO NOT FOLLOW THE INKTEC INSTRUCTIONS when refilling a cart. They are junk. Check this forum to see how to fill a cart.

7. Do not use the plugs that came with the InkTec ink. They do not want to stay put. They are good for an emergency plug only.

8. Check this forum to see how to create the fill hole for the top-fill method.

9. Buy a resetter.

10. Buy the 20 ml refills. If you like the ink, then you can buy the liter refills. Purchase the individual color ink when you need the ink if you are purchasing the liter refill. I purchased the liter refill for the CLI-221-BK months ago and have yet to use the liter refill. In fact, I have not used up my 20 ml refill.

11. It is always good to have two printers that use the same carts and/or printhead. One printer can be used as a backup. If you have a bad nozzle test on one printer you can switch to the backup printer. You can take your time in determining the nature of the bad nozzle testlife is sweet!!!!!

12. If you want to print photos that do not fade over time, I suggest you use Canon ink. InkTec is an unknown in this area.

13. Tudor, you may know all of the above, but it is always good to have someone reinforce what you already know.

Thank you.

Hello!

I want to buy an ip3600 and I have a few questions:
1. Is the printhead more reliable/long lasting than the ones included on cartridges (CL513 for example)?
2. As the printhead is considered consumable, does the warranty cover it?
3. How well is this machine built? Should I expect problems on the mechanical side?
4. I can buy this printer at 100$. How many prints should I expect of it using inktec/IS ink?

Because a new set of cartridges is around 87$ I will probably buy two ip3600, so I will have an extra printhead/set of cartridges/printer but I need to know what to expect of it.
Any impresions/advice on this printer is welcome.
Thank you!
Did you buy yours online or locally. I am on the hunt for one and cant seem to find one locally. I checked all the major electronic stores, they all have the ''newer models'' (The one I run away from xD )

Thank you all for your input!
I tried the german, freedom, vacuum and top method on an Inktec cartridge and I will settle for the Inktec ink with the german method. If I run into problems I will post them here. If my refilling is a success... I will brag about it here. hehe

@joseph1949: Thank you for the pointers. The three Inktec kits are 35euro. The 5x100ml bottles are 24euro. Since I won't use the inktec clips I will buy the bulk ink.
The first thing I did when joining this forum was to read every single post I found and I continued doing so. In theory I should have no problem refilling; in practice... stuff may happen. :)

@Iprintstuff: I don't know how this would help you if you live outside Romania, but I bought mine from emag. They have a showroom in the city I live in, so Ipicked it up myself. It was on order, thet don't have it on stock. I placed my order on the 9th and picked it up on the 11th, so they did good. :) Since this is the first time I bought anything from them I don't know how they honor the warranty, but they have some good options: 7euro for 1 year extension, 12euro for 2 years extension.

Since you intend to use third party inks in your printer I wouldnt bother wasting my money on any warranty from that store
as they will find a way of wriggling out of it somehow and youll be stuffed.

Canon offers a free 1 year warranty which is usually sufficient anyway, so long as you dont mention using non OEM ink.. :)

I didn't get the extended warranty because I rely on good 3rd party ink, good maintanance, spare printer and excelent help from this forum. :)

How do I Refill a PIXMA iP3600?

* 1 Press the printer's "Power" button to turn it on. Fold down the output paper tray.

* 2 Open the printer's top cover. Wait for the cartridge assembly to stop in the center of the printer.

* 3 Replace the cartridge with the flashing or non-illuminated light. Press on the tab at the front of the cartridge, then lift it out of its slot.

* 4 Remove the new cartridge from its packaging. Twist the orange cap off the bottom of the cartridge and discard the cap.

* 5 Insert the front bottom edge of the cartridge first, then press down until the tab clicks into place. Ensure the cartridge's light illuminates.

* 6 Close the printer's top cover. Wait as the printer calibrates the new cartridge before trying to process any print jobs.
