Canon Mp560 broken?

hello .have I just wrecked my MP560 I started to print only to hear a grinding of gears?,looking down the top paper slot there sits a British legion poppy(this is a flower with paper/fibre petal and a hard plastic center/stalk) firmly trapped between the rollers,I managed to remove the poppy, but the paper now no longer travel's cleanly through the printer it seems to crunch up on the second set of rollers at the front of the printer head,as the printer has been brill could any one kindly point me to a site where I can obtain details how to strip the printer down for a better look or repair,(I have previously stripped down mt Epson 2200 with instructions that I found on the webb ) many thanks for reading

Hello!

Top paper slot means ASF tray, universal tray or photo paper (thick media) tray - all names are correct.

ASF mechanics may be broken, so reassembling them may be waste of time.

I can suggest one of three solutions:

1. Replacing entire printer unit, but without inks and printhead.
   Compatible models:
   • iP3600 (very plain printer without duplex, scanner, wifi)
     
   • MP540 (no wifi, no duplex)
   • MP550 (no duplex)
   • MP560
   • MP620 (different cover and scanner lid)
   • MX860/870 (fax and scanner ADF)
   • MG5150 (no wifi, uses newer chips - 525/526, but ink tanks and printhead fits)
2. Replacing ASF unit, but can't guarante it solve problem when APP motor drive switch is damaged (complex mechanism!).
   
3. Replacing entire print engine after removing motherboard and its plate, and refiting some parts (card reader and output tray opener). Lot of work. Compatible print engine - see p. 1.

According to p. 1., it is risk of buying damaged printer. I can recommend acquiring one from someone for no charge. While it is more trouble to find such person, It is still safer, less risk of being cheated.

Hi peter, and welcome on board.

Firstly, sorry for your poppy mess inside the printer but is sounds like you didn’t get the entire poppy out in one piece and there maybe some small part still left inside.

The other problem you may have encountered is the paper sensor switch, if you have bent broken or damaged this switch then it will take a huge amount of work to replace it, but if it’s only bent it then there is a good chance you maybe be able to straighten it again.

But before you start to pull the printer apart try this, cut a piece of A4 card or heavy paper into a 2” strip lengthways and try to feed that manually through the paper feed. (Move from side to side)

Now with any luck you may find the obstruction that is stopping the paper feeding through your printer or at least see the area where this foreign body is located, you’ll need a flashlight for better inspection.

If you can move the foreign body with the paper then turn the printer upside down and give it a good thump with your hand, or wall or even a good shaking may dislodge the object.

I reckon I’ve given you enough to go on with for now so have at go at it when you get the patience too and then report back on you adventures please...
