Canon MG5450 Patchy - Help Please!

Hello All,

The black ink is slightly patchy, is there a way to fix this?
I heard it is a blocked printer head and it needs to be flushed? But how do you do it?

That will depend on several things, like have you been printing documents with this problem or did you stopped using the printer straight away ?

Have you tried running a normal black head clean yourself yet or any other method of cleaning and what inks are you using, are they OEM, 3rd party compatible, refill OEM or 3rd party refilled cartridges ?

Until you can get this issue resolved it would be advisable not to print any test sheets for now, nozzle checks are ok..

Hello,

Unfortunately I don't have any of that information. It's a printer I was about to buy. The buyer is selling it very cheap, only £20 - But he told me, that it needs the print head flushing and thats the pic of the nozzle check.

He said it should be able to be fixed this way, but i'm not sure if I should buy it?

As you can see from my other thread my printer has just broken, so i'm trying to get a replacement.

If is, that means CLI-BK nozzles are damaged.

To me the nozzle check uploaded by smartest_smarty shows severe clogging in Pigment black and a less severe clogging in dye (photo) black, but no electronic print head damage. Maybe this unclogging method will work. I think it is worth giving a try, before trying more radical methods. Instead of pharmacist's cleaning solution you can also use a window cleaner with ammonia.

But what kind of cartridges are you using? New OEM? Refilled OEM? New 3'rd party cartridges? Refilled 3'rd party cartridges?

In case of refilled cartridges, what brand of ink and which refill method do you use?

Hi Peter,

I haven't purchased the printer yet, it's being sold like this, but it's very cheap! I don't mind buying it if I can fix it.

I don't any of the equipment mentioned on the other thread. I watched a youtube video, saying you can just run warm water through the print head and then dry it all with a lint free cloth. Is this possible?

Do you think it's worth buying?

If you can’t get proper answers from this guy then I reckon you shouldn’t buy this printer, it’s not worth it especially if you have to get a new print head for it, a new printer would be cheaper and guaranteed to work first time..

I agree with The Hat. I didn't notice that the printer was not yours. I wouldn't buy a defective printer for £20. If a cleaning of the print head fails and ruins the print head and possibly also the logic board, you have bought a useless printer. I would only buy the printer if I could have it for 5£ or less and then take the risk.

There are other mysteries:
- ink absorber counter level?
- total page count (according to nozzle print it is up to 5250)?
- is service mode locked?

CLI-BK (or/and CLI-Y) blur phenomena is very common in printers from aftermarket.
