Canon iP4200 - getting grain

Hi, i am new to colour printing and recently im getting involved because of portfolio prepartions for post secondary education applications. I purchased the canon pixma ip4200 and some semi-gloss photo paper, i start printing works and i am finding a lot of grains on them, anyone know if im doing anything wrong or has gotten this problem before?

First thing to try is different paper type settings until you find one that is better suited to the brand of paper you purchased.
