After I put in a generic ink tank (and swapping the chip from the OEM tank to the new generic) and then reset the chip so it stops detecting the level of ink, what happens if subsequently I put in a new OEM ink tank? Does the printer then start detecting the level of ink with the inclusion of a new cartridge with a new chip or have I permanently stopped the ink level being detected buy using a generic tank?

Anytime an unexpired chip is on the printer the ink level will work despite having refilled before and losing the ink indicator. The fact that you refilled is retained in the permanent memory of the printer.
