I've got the Canon Pixma 8500 which has the CD printing option disabled here in Canada. Is there somewhere I can get the hardware/software to make it work like the European models? It looks like the slot to put the CD in is still there...just covered by a piece of plastic.

Other than that, this printer is awesome for photos. I've never seen inkjet photos this good.

http://pixma.webpal.info/ - the quick and easy steps
http://pixma-faq.periastron.com The more verbose info (mine).
http://pixma-faq.periastron.com.nyud.net:8090/ - e-bay users use this link
http://pixma.theupgradeguy.biz - new one under construction... the gent also sells trays.

Since that thread started at least three faqs have sprung from it... so people like your self don't have to sift through 30+ pages, or rather I wrote one because I got frustrated that it took me a couple of hours hunting down the info. It's reccomended you view the faqs first as they are at least indexed... the thread is big bulky and a whole bunch of no fun.

Trays are somewhat hard to get, though i'm told www.partsnow.com has "some" and ships to canada, but that *might* change. The typical price for a tray on e-bay dropped down to usd$20 for a time but might jump back up to USD$30+ if parts now no longer supplies them. They were about $6ish plus shipping.

I've seen less info on the ip8500 than the ip3000/4000/5000/6000... but the there are confermed reports of it working on all the above, just can't remember anyone in particular who has the 8500. One should note that cd printing is also possible on the mp750 mp760 and mp780.

I just bought one on e-bay, and one from someone off steve's forums, but have yet to receive them. I've been using a trimmed epson tray.

<<snipped>>.
As one who benefitted from your work, I just want to say a big THANKS. I performed "The Procedure" on my brand new PIXMA iP5000 this weekend. It was a glowing success, thanks to the well laid out instructions and accompanying info. I ordered my CD tray on Friday, and it's on its way. This is a fine example of when the Internet is at its best - disseminating info, helping and empowering people. BRAVO, everyone! [And a special thanks to Rob for providing the canvas for this masterpiece]
