My old Canon i9900 died recently.

I am replacing it with a new Canon Pro 9000.

I have over 75 new original Canon ink cartridges BCI-6 left over from my old printer.

The new Pro 9000 uses CLI cartridges.

Does anyone know if I can use my old BCI cartridges on the Pro 9000.

The cartridges look very similar.

There are no chips on the BCI cartridges, but I believe the CLI cartridges has a chip installed on them.

I would just like to know if I can use up these old ink cartridges without having to sell them on eBay.

Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

until someone with more experience comes along....

I doubt it as the printer needs chipped carts to work. As for what to do with your old carts, not sure, again someone will come along with a suggestion.

In the mean time, have you seen this thread....?

Without the chips, the printer will not even try to print.

Is it possible to remove the chip from the CLI cartridges and attach it to the BCI cartridge?

Nope: there is a phsysical differnece between CLI-8 (with indentation) and BCI-6 (without), making it possible to put a CLI-8 into an BCI-6 printer, but not the other way. I would suggest you to use the German Durchstich method to withdraw the ink from these cartridges and to refill the CLI-8 carts and reset them with a resetter. The empty ones you can sell on ebay.

To the mods,

Is it about time to setup a buy/sell/trade forum?
Just user to user with no commercial postings.

I know it opens up a whole new can of worms but if it can be done regionally that would be great! :)

Excellent idea, yupkime, but only if done in a separate section or companion forum. I'd love to see a response from the moderators about this.

Good to see another British Columbian here.
