I have a Canon G2010 from 2022 and currently it is suffering from a door sensor issue. The door sensor seems to have come loose or faulty and when any button is pressed on the body it seems to trigger the Top Door open message. I have seen some videos where they just short the sensor and make it a direct connection and other where they use a sort of shim to make the top body plunger a bit taller so it presses more tightly (Like I did in image 2).

I used a foam double side tape to make a soft shim, is it safe to use it like that or will that cause any issues? Canon is quoting a large amount for the sensor change plus it will take a month or so for the sensor to arrive.

Canon uses different types of switches for the open lid sensor in different models. Usually it is a type of micro switch. Some of these seem to be fragile , some seem much more robust. @The Hat had a problem similar to yours and solved it in a similar way, see this post.

I also had this problem with an iP4000. I managed to open and clean the switch, see this post.

You find a service manual for the G1000-G2000-G3000 series of printers here. At page 75/80 in the service manual It looks like the switch might be similar to the one used in the iP4000, click to enlarge:

Maybe the switch is a standard type that could be bought from a seller of electronic components?
