Hi every, I'm Obt. I'm new here. I own a canon p200 and I print photo books with it. As we all know the OEM inks that come with it won't last and so I bought a set of third party inks from Ink products, an American company. I ordered it together with the printer on Amazon.

After fixing the third party ink I quickly realized that the color reproduction isn't as good as the canon ink. I've tried different ICC profiles but I'm still not getting it right.

I could really use some help. If anyone has any profiles that's worked well for them and they'd be kind to share.

Also I'd appreciate if I could get info on any type of third party inks that are good enough for the job. I'm in Ghana, west Africa and so shipping in from canon on cartridges would kill me😁, we don't get things cheap out here. Many thanks.

Hi and welcome,

I think the ink you purchased should be good enough to get a comparable reproduction like the OEM ink.

However, for a good and controllable color reproduction you need to create your own profiles, or have them made for you. In this case, it is because your third party ink is slightly different from the OEM ink.

Regarding printer profiles, there are four major factors that play a role in what is reproduced.
The printing software & settings, the specific printer, the ink and the paper.

Every time one of these factors would change, you would need a new profile. If you do it right, you'll have consistent reproduction with many different inks and papers. That also means you will have inaccurate reproduction when printing with profiles made for a different combination.

If you plan to use just one set of ink, with just one type of paper, you could find someone to make one profile for you to use with that set. Because you'll only need to print and mail out some pieces of paper, I think you could send that across a continent fairly affordable.

It is correct that you need a separate icc-profile for any ink + paper combination, and be aware that the paper as well has a strong impact onto the color rendition and not just the ink.
I need to contradict your statement very much that the Canon inks of the P200 - Chromalife 100+ - don't have a good longevity, and 3rd party inks would do better - no - not at all, I have done lots of tests over the last years - the OEM inks Chromalife 100(+) are the best inks you can get in this respect, and 3rd party inks are way off , no seller of such 3rd party inks will make any commitment that their inks have a comparable longevity performance and have evidence for it.

I only can recommend you to switch over to orignial Canon inks - in this case to the bottled inks of the G550 photo printer - the GI-53 Chromalife inks. These inks are way cheaper than the orignal Canon cartridges for the P200, the inkset do not match completely, and you would use the origianal inks for those colors where there is no match with the Gi-53 inks which is a 6 color inkset.

Numbers may vary in your country -.Canon has different product numbers in different business regions .
