I have done a google on CIS systems for the R280 photo printer and it has come up with a dozen sites, some are 100 dollars a pop and some are 49.99 a pop! THat is a significant difference I would say!

Universals - http://colorfastink.com/ - 109.00
http://www.echostore.com/continuous-ink-r280.html - 85.99
http://www.simplyinked.com/continuo...r-epson-r260-r280-r380-rx580-rx595-rx680.html - 47.95

That is a lot of difference! Is one that much better than another?

Thanks all!

Great forum and support!

Usually what it comes down to isn't the kit but other factors such as:
- ink quality (and quantity obviously)
- support
- documentation
- reputation.

I've only ever heard of echostore personally from that group and would usually add another to the mix (just to confuse things further ;)) ie: rihac.com.au

Ultimately you get what you pay for but my advice would be to cast around for genuine, warts and all reviews, see if you can ID the inks being offered, the quality and whether people rate them...

Hope that helps...

I had heard of this one before - http://kalvins.com/continuousinksystemforepsonprinterscx5800f-1.aspx

but then again who the heck am I! hehe

It is pretty pricey though. If all things are equal in the set ups then I will probably just go with echostore which is middle of the road price I would say!

You can buy the ink for these things anywhere right? You do not have to go back to the on line store to refill them over and over correct?

cheers!

Seems there are dozens of these things out there!
Try hundreds...

There are many kits that are essentially the same and being resold by different resellers with variable experience, support, etc...

Believe me when I say that the mass of kits is not a good thing... Too many sell them because they can, not because they know what it does, how to fix or even care...

Good question and I researched that for a long time but finally found what I regard as the best. The site is full of tutorials and the inks are custom made according to the printer. I have an Epson 1400 that uses Claria dye based inks and this company has "Claria type" inks for a fraction of the cost and their cis systems are way under a hundred bucks depending on the size of the inks ordered. I went with 240 ML bottles( 6) and even then it was very reasonable. Also if your not a heavy printer they have "damper/chip systems even cheaper and they work just as good as the full on cis system with the tubling. I have e-mailed them a dozen times and always get an answer from Ross sometimes within an hour. I don't want to sound like a salesman for them but when I find a really good source for something that saves me a ton of money I like to pass the good news on. Look for yourself and check out InkJetCarts. Good printing, printfan1138!

Another thought, when considering a cis ink system check out kits with dampers rather than modified Cartridges. Dampers are designed to create a better suction and feed for the ink flow and they have the "Chip Bars" that stay in the printer to read as full all colors and reset when needed. For my money those are the best way to go. If your not into tubes and bottles there are "damper carts" that don't need tubes, are refillable IN the printer and work as good as the cis system damper kits, and they are even less expensive. Good printing! Printfan1138

I second Ross Hardie, http://inkjetcarts.us/ I purchased 'stuff' for my Canon Pro 9000 refillable carts previously and just today received my refill cart system for my Epson 3880. He's got >30 yrs in the 'print stuff' business and never hesitated to answer questions thru the phone or emails--very generous with his time to help customers old&new.

I set up an Epson R280 for my wife and used refillable carts, I'm seriously thinking of installing his R280 CIS.
After you install yours (his) drop me a note-just might make me act sooner.

The previous poster is right on, when you find a great vendor stay there and pass the word!!

good luck irv weiner
