Like photography in general, I'm manic depressive. Don't do anything for years, then jump into the deep end. I've not done "art" or large format printing for years. Now, I'm wanting back in.
I've used Canon printers for decades. All dye based. Last large format, PRO-10. I've avoided pigment inks for many reasons. You know most of them. Bronzing, Nozzle clogging. Not so great for non-matte papers. (That's one of the reasons matte joined the big leagues, despite lower gamut. There's a reason pre-inkjet glossies were the standard.)
I'm now considering the Canon PRO-310. It uses the second generation of Lucia pigment inks as used in the PRO 1100, which both Canon and users find better, especially gamut. It also has, I'll call it nozzle switching technology, a nozzle clogs, and it uses another. It also has the Chroma Optimizer clear coat. FYI, Canon had something like this decades ago. To me, the 310 makes pigment ink printing finally arrived.
I did look at the Epson ET-8550, a tank printer. It's an all in one, which I do not need. At about $100 less, it's tempting. But then I thought, if they can do all this cheaper, including the scanner function, what else is cheap or of lesser quality. Bzzzt...... I decided that I would pay more for the printer and inks than go with something logically inferior. I've afforded printing because I always refilled cartridges. Until someone comes out with a Lucia 2 ink formulation, I'll just bite the financial bullet. Or, maybe, a continuous feed?
Back to my question, anyone using this printer?
