MX472 has only 2 ink carts one BLACK and one tri-color, so not a candidate for refilling. interesting how the BLACK PG240 cart is sold in 3 size cartridges. canon basically uses the same physical cart but puts a plastic wall in the ink reservoir side so it holds less ink.

the prices and sizes are:
- PGI240 - $18 for 8 mls
- PGI240 XL - $20 for 11 mls
- PGI240XXL - $38 for 21 mls

compare that to older models:
- MP830 PGI5 cart hold 25 mls
- MX870 PGI220 cart hold 19 mls

you can see where canon's business model is going.

The printer has got quite an impressive list of features for an entry-level machine, I think it is less expensive to add a lot of functionality to the printer than to use a high build quality.

Comparing the price of cartridges to the price of the printer makes you understand the term "disposable printer". The concept of standard vs XL cartridges has been used by HP and other printer manufacturers for years.

I noticed that with this printer you have access to "Creative Park Premium" so you can download and print a lot of material and use a lot of ink, but only if you have not refilled the cartridges and disabled ink monitoring. Your money is supposed to go to Canon, not to Image Specialists or other refill ink manufacturers.
