Hi all

Last saturday januari 21st, Aldi Belgium sold glossy photopaper, my previous buy was 2 years before, and worked great with my Inktec Powerchrome pigment ink..now i can say that the paper is completly different compared with the previous version, carbord(paper back) 260gsm instead of 300gsm and a disaster to print with my Inktec Powerchrome pigment ink,
My black ink works fine weird enough, probably because its the Hybrid version from Octoinkjet ,( that is 50% pigment and 50% dye ink mixture), since i give almost all these prints away i need to find good cheap..ish glossy paper. My normal paper is PPd Satin Pearl 280gsm 13x18

That's not good news, such a paper with a paperlike back - the cast coated type of budget level papers - does not print well with pigment ink papers. I think the days of the 290/300 gr Aldi glossy PE type papers from Sihl are long gone. If Sihl is not mentioned specifically in the fine print on the box be cautious to buy it .

My previous Aldi paper is made by Netbit and this paper is made in P.R.C..so in China..

Yes, the Netbit paper was equivalent to the Aldi/sihl paper

Unfortunately paper supplies have dramatically altered in the last 2 years. Standard office/copier paper is now retailing at over 100% increase compared to this time last year and while I haven't had the time to confirm it seems that a number of paper mills have gone under, with others being bought out. The net result has been a considerable increase in price.

No idea if specialist papers are going to be seeing the same problems, but common sense would indicate that it's not going to help. So, it's going to be a case of doing some research to see what else is out there and also accept that the days of cheap photo papers is pretty much over.

Funny that because it’s still dirt cheap here in the EU, €4.75 for 80gm copier and €8.75 for premium 100gm, and it’s cheaper over at Lidl too, United Office A4 copy paper on special at Lidl €3.25..

P.S. But no sign of their United Office photo glossy papers (50 pack)..

I may be wrong on this but retail outlets seem to be behind on pricing at the moment. The wholesalers that we use are quoting silly prices for bulk purchases. I suspect you'll see a sudden bump in the next month or so...

I do hope you’re wrong for all our sakes..o_O
Are you sure this is not just a fallout from Brexit..!
Honestly... no I'm not sure. There's a lot of cr*p hitting the proverbial fan because of that flustercluck of nationalised jingoism gone bad but at this stage it's hard to work out what or who is to blame for whatever the crisis de jour might be. I guess we'll see...

It was announced on Wednesday but it was not delivered in the 2 shops I visited.
Didn't go back on Saturday.

Thanks for informing I didn't miss anything.

I still have 4 boxes "Expertiz" from 2 yrs ago, but since I must have hoarded at least 1500 A4 equivalents (from 10x15 to A3+) of different brands and surfaces over the years, most of better quality, I will dig into it for my volume prints afterwards.

Sometimes I still find a nice lot on second hand sites, but if I have to pay €25-30 or more for 50 sheets I will outsource my calendars and photo books.
