A very inexpensive Vacuum Pump?

If you can find an used kitchen vaccum sealer with a hose attachment for cans, I'd think that it may do the job for you, along with save your food.

I have made very good vacuum pump for $0 using compressor out of an old fridge. Nothing to it.
I agree with the above suggestion. Although I no longer do much of my own automotive work, for a number of years I did my own repairs and recharging of my automobiles' air-conditioning systems and used the vacuum pump I made from an old refrigerator compressor to evacuate the system. After leak checking the system with a good set of vacuum gages, if it passed I would then recharge with new refrigerant. That vacuum pump was capable of pulling nearly a full vacuum, more than enough to work on ink cartridges.
