A HP Refilling Question..

I have the offer of a HP 1200 printer for free which uses these HP 10/11 cartridges (c4844).

I got two questions Id like answered regarding these cartridges from our HP users on here.

(1) Has anyone refilled these cartridges successfully?
(2) Can the chip be reset i.e. (Resetter available)

I salvaged a HP2000c printer some time ago. I think it might be similar to the HP1200. The HP2000 uses the HP 10 cartridges, which are relatively easily refilled. The ink is stored in a plastic/alumin(i)um bag, somewhat similar to your Canon pigment carts.

The cartridges are chipped and the original chips cannot be reset, but both ARC and manually resettable chips are available. A resetter is also available for the manually resettable chips.: http://www.inkbank.com.au/category104_1.htm . It is probably also available from an EU supplier.

So I would say yes to both of your questions.

I tried to get the HP2000 going again, but never succeeded, and I finally dumped it. The the printer has a built in pump/cis system. The separate printheads are difficult to unclog or even reprime if they ingest air. The newer but similar HP 88 printheads can also cause problems: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3095

So what youre saying is to dump the OEMs and use compatible carts with ARC chips.
If the print head is not duff in the first place..

I overlooked that these chips might not fit into the OEM catridges, without problems. It might be possible to trim the OEM cartridges to make the aftermarket chips fit though.

I have done a little more googling about these cartridges, and aftermarket cartridges miss the very important camshaft activated rubber bladder pump that is an important part of the ink feed system. It is similar to a camshaft driven mechanical automotive fuel pump in principle. But I have seen replacement chips plus resetters at alibaba. So it might be worth checking out if chips that can be used with OEM cartridges can be found. Without the pump system working the printheads need to rely on suction alone for ink supply. In my opinion this make aftermarket cartridges a no-no.

In other words: my suggestion is to use the OEM cartridges, but with manually resettable chips attached.

There is not one but four printheads in these printers, one for each cartridge, if they are similar to the HP2000c.

What is the exact model name of the printer? According to google HP 1200 could be different printers.

Thanks for the vital information regarding the chips; it looks like I got some work to do.
I just checked this evening and found that the model is an HP 2200..

An update on refilling the HP 10 cartridges.

I think this Youtube video provides better information for refilling these cartridges: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjEeOovl6tM , note that air is sucked out of the cartridge after refill, and also removed from the pump, making sure it is primed. The pump priming step is missing in the other refill instruction, but I think it is important.

I watched it with interest but found the priming of the cartridge after the refilling a bit too cumbersome.

I also watched the Refillhouse video which looked far easier and their priming method was so much better and simpler,
I got a refillhouse refilling kit for a brother printer a while ago to try it out on my PGI-29 cartridges, but it didnt work.

I now plan to test it out on these HP cartridges;
I unfortunately cut up a cartridge to see what was inside so now Ill have to get a new one,
in the mean time I will concentrate on cleaning out the pesky print head..
