I gave my niece and her husband an MP780 but they have 64-bit Windows 7 and the downloaded driver from Canon won't recognize the printer when it asks for it to be plugged in. It does recognize the scanner. Anyone know a workaround or fix?

Install the printer manually.
Go to the printer and devices and select Add a Printer from the top.
After that, you'll need to assign a port, then if the printer is not located within the double panels, then you will need to Update the driver selection after selecting Canon.
The 780 will be listed after the update.
Install the driver and follow instructions.

Thanks, Mikling. Are they going to know what it means to assign a port? I'm not sure I would know.

After downloading the new drivers the OS will likely recognize the printer afterwards. Reboot and try that first.
