My experience is that a box pops up to ask if you want to opt in to automatic updates, so as long as you click cancel, and if possible do not show this message again, you should be fine.
Same with firmware updates, you should be informed if one is available, just click...

Isn't the waste more or less the same, as you throw an empty 250ml but retain the 125ml as a re-useable?
If, as usual, the ink is cheaper to buy the larger bottle it is in, and also as it doesn't need a special top, most should see the advantage of the larger bottles.

You can get the North American resetter sent to a UK e-mail address, so I'm guessing it would work with any e-mail address, however, it only reset the counters back...
