panos, I totally agree with your post - have used this method for a years with success (with all of your don't). Have worn out a MP830 and am currently refilling a i9900 and MX850. Only problem I had was the mess created my refilling a non-empty cartridge (don't #3) once - changed my ways.

Mowerman90, Since you refill your cartridges, the Brother HL2140 should be a snap to refill the toner. I also refill my Canons (MX850 and 9000) with Image Specialist inks from Mikling and toner for my Brother 2170 (wireless version of your printer). Great results so far.

When you say "almost empty", you probably had too much ink in the sponge side. When you fill the tank, the ink displaces the air which forces the ink in the sponge side out the vent and fill hole. This is like trying to fill a full tank, the ink has to go somewhere.

Or maybe like our prints with dye ink, you could expose the carpet to UV and ozone and hope for accelerated fading, lol.
