Dunno... $145 for a new print head when (in the US) you can buy a Pro-10 for $350 after the rebate?
Correction: $450 after rebate, so that print head is looking like a better deal.
I'm guessing that we'd be in extended warranty territory by now ;)
The consensus seems to be we need new print heads. I happened to have an extra (courtesy of Canon) but I'd be reluctant to buy one for a six year old printer. I'm open to cannibalizing parts from a deal on Craig's List.
Thanks, @mikling, the cartridges are ok because they print normal test patterns with my alternate print head (the one with dead PBK nozzle). I'm inclined to agree with you about the backflushing and give it another go. When I did, I was surprised how little MBK ink came out of the intake screen...
Update: I gave it another cleaning with ammonia and compressed air, ran a cleaning cycle and got a near perfect nozzle check pattern. The next two test pages were each a bit worse. Then I isolated the cartridge (per my method above) and this time I got a completely blank page. So I'm throwing in...
The image size was 4x6 on an 8.5x11 canvas. My control was to print the same image with settings for glossy paper and it came out much darker, as in the photo in the original post. So, at a minimum, different inks or combinations thereof were used.
As far as there being an electrical problem...
I created a new doc in PS with 4"x6" dimensions. I created an all-black fill layer. I printed it out being careful to use front feed, Fine Art Premium Matte and Margin 35 in the printer settings. My PS printer settings used the corresponding profile. Here's a screenshot.
The print head has...
My nozzle check printout shows a stubborn problem with MBK despite a lot cleaning, cartridge changing, etc. The best I've managed is the partial printout. The blank one is the most recent. In between, however, I was able to isolate the MBK cartridge and print from it nearly perfectly. I'm not...
Here's a sample of my nozzle check pattern. Half of the PBP is printing at partial density.
I've cleaned the head with ammonia and compressed air, run several cleaning cycles and one deep cleaning cycle. Normally, I keep my 9500 turned on when not in use but I discovered recently that it had...
Thanks for the feedback. My question was actually along the lines of a hypothetical prompted by two experiences. In an absent-minded moment, I recently filled a cyan cartridge with photo cyan ink. I didn't worry much about contamination, as the colors are fairly close. I extracted the ink...
If my PGI-9 M cart has reached the end of its refillable life but I have plenty of, let's say, MBK carts, can I flush the latter very thoroughly and refill it with magenta ink? I suppose I'd need to to transfer the chip as well.
Also, in the past, I've flushed carts with distilled water. Is...
I went by this evening and they were, indeed, out of stock. However, the salesman arranged to have a Pro9000 shipped to me. Amazingly, the net cost will be $50 + tax. I should have it in two days. I would have bought the Pro9500 but I already have it, along with an extra unsealed printhead that...
I just got an in-store only (but with free shipping) from Adorama via email. The Pixma Pro9000 Mark II works out to $100 after Adorama and Canon rebates. The Pro9500 Mark II is $250 after rebates. I already have the 9500 but don't need pigment prints all the time. I'm sorely tempted by the...
I know what you mean about the ins and outs. For example, I just ran off a large sepia print on the Innova White Gloss with almost no bronzing. I have the feeling that the printer likes to be used regularly. I've been curious about Kirkland. I haven't come across it in stores. Is it only sold at...
Sorry for the late feedback. I've been working with the InkjetCarts re-fill inks for about two weeks. I've tried them out on the following papers:
(i) Canon Photo Paper Plus SG -- colors work with the canned profiles but there is significant bronzing;
(ii) Canon Fine Art Photo Rag -- no...
Thanks for the info. I may pick one up but, for now, the following routine is working for me.
Rather than re-filling the carts when they get low, I re-fill all ten at the same time. Some carts, especially MBK, use very little ink. I bring two plastic containers to my printer. The first...
From what I've read, there isn't currently a solution for resetting the black and grey chips. I was under the impression that CLI-8 resetters worked fine on PGI-9 chips with the exception of those colors. I ordered one on eBay that does nothing to any of my chips. It sounds as if you have one...
