I think much of it is in the eye of the beholder.
I still have 2 functioning iP4000's that I think are great printers.
I even have an iP3000 that spits out great looking direct printed CD's and DVD's from time to time.
There is an iP5000 here that is quite nice, too.
These old warriors keep me...
Could be drivers as Ron says.
I've had problems with HP drivers when more than one HP device is running (installed) on the same computer.
Each of course with its own driver set.
It was a PhotoSmart 7260 with a ScanJet 3400c. HP developed a patch for this known bug that affected other...
I've never used it, but I have seen this one recommended for Canons...

Myself, I would probably go for the MX850.
Before I condemned the printer I would suspect the ink that you are using and/or the paper stock.
If you don't refill and don't want to buy genuine Canon ink try having a local refiller such as *Island Inkjet refill **your spent cartridges. Their ink appears to be of high quality.
Also try...
I'm afraid that this may be the case.
Standard EEPROM re-programming procedures are not working with this iP4600. There are units just north of the border (Canada) that are direct disk enabled out of the box. We're hoping it's just a matter of time that someone will come up with a solution.
I've always understood the "American method" as filling through the top of the cart, at the reservoir side (spongeless side) using the original Canon fill port or creating a new one near the clip.
1. You don't give enough details to comment on this experience.
2. The printer you have now is an inexpensive, entry-level machine designed for very light duty service.
While technically refillable, it is not a desirable machine to have for refilling purposes.
1. The required "Tray G" is available but no info on re-programming EEPROM
Anyone know how to enable disk printing on a North American iP4600 ?
2. Service Mode
Anyone know how to enter Service Mode on a iP4600 ?
3. I don't own one of these beasts, just trying to help a sorry lad on another forum.
Sorry about jumping to conclusions, but when you mentioned refilling, I knew that Walmart would not have any stock representing that class of printer.
The SE designation must be a special run for Walmart and what the actual difference is, I don't know. I would bet that it takes the same carts as...
This does not sound good. You will have to post a model number so we know what you are talking about.
It's a safe bet that these are not what you want.
If you want a refillable, resetable Canon, you need to act fast, as Canon has stopped production of the desirable units.
I'll look around and...
Yeah, got me too :(
mengyanfen, stop sending this sort of uninvited email in hopes of doing business. In my culture it is considered an attack on my privacy.
I don't buy anything from anyone that attacks my privacy.
Then there is shoe-throwing....
Make a test hole in some scrap plastic that is similar to the Canon cartridge and test one of Dave's silicone plugs in it. It should not go in easy. It should be a bit stubborn going in to provide a reliable seal.
