Just my opinion yet bypassing paper jam sensor/sensors is a potential fire hazard if the jam occurs in the fuser possibly turning an annoyance into a much more serious issue putting your or the eventual end user at risk.
As I understand that machine, there are multiple sensors involved for...
Hi @LiveNudeDann
It does not appear to be one of the basic issues. Since I don't own such a printer, this advice comes from what I have read and heard.
It is important that you are using the Epson CD/DVD software and when starting it, that the CD/DVD option is selected. This step causes the...
I have not used either personally yet, here is a comparison table for your reference.
Your mileage may vary, yet this may help you in your investigation.

Even though the inkjet paper is thicker, it may not be as stiff because the inkjet coating is less rigid than a mineral clay coat
I only know of 300 gsm. If you get heavier then that, you may need to use the straight through feeder optoin on the Epson 8550:
double side 300 gsm photo paper

HI @W. Fisher
Glad you are the track to get it fixed. I use a Mac OS so could not be very helpful.
Just for grins, I asked AI what was up with color mangement in Windows 11 being so off sometimes and here is what it came up with below.
Note one of the last solutions was exactly what you did...
Hi @W. Fisher
Here is some additional information.
I took your two images and plotted there Lab 3D gamut images shown below.
The first is for the problem image that you labeled messy:
And this one is Let Printer Manage Colors:
Very similar except the offset from black. That is an L...
Just to make sure we are clear, the settings from the FAQ that are being discussed are only for creating the color profiles and not the settings for regular prints. Here is an explanation from online that seemed to help and made sense yet its from AI so your mileage may vary. Since it mentions...
A couple of items,
- Under unusual situations, ink or other contaminants between the round gold contact points can cause problems.
- Also, if the pads are no longer gold (gold coating), a good solid electrical connection becomes much less certain, as when the gold is gone, the underlying metal...
Your problem is above my pay grade to help much more, and I will leave it to those with more expertise.
It did seem odd that the banding appeared to extend beyond the large magenta patch.
One thing I did not hear mentioned is checking for a good connection without contamination (crosstalk...
Did you notiice that the banding is not limited to just the square magenta area? White areas amplified in picture below show bands there and continuing across the magenta square area. Might be a clue.

Hi @ThrillaMozilla
To solve you particular problem, it might have been better to start a new thread as it might get buried here.
That said, sounds very frustrating and yes with the right settings and profile you should not have that level of a problem.
Since you are likely a expert on this...
Hi @pharmacist
I don't know if you have already checked the Chromix site yet it shows the i1 Pro ruler which you seek and it mentions to contact their sales department.
No clue about availability at this point as it does not say on the web page.
Thought it was at least worth mentioning...
Hi @pharmacist
I am familiar with that setup as I do have one.
Here is link to a detailed review by Keith Cooper:

And here is a link to the replacement fixture for the new ruler from B&H...
Wow, what archeological dig did that come from? ;) I did not even know that Gretag MacBeth partnered with other companies to have names such as HP imprinted on their hardware. I bought an i1 Pro 1 rev B back in 2005, and I recognize all of that hardware in your pictures.
Support lasted...
Hi @Ink stained Fingers
It will be great to see your results.
One thing that might be worth checking in your tests is the difference between the standard and the highest quality setting. The difference may not kick in until the highest quality level is chosen. We could DM if you want...
