Problem w/bizarre intermitten cross contamination (I think)

7560 is a lot, is it? It's <10% of what the counter can keep track of. It doesn't sound like your next bit of advice is to replace the head.

Problem w/bizarre intermitten cross contamination (I think)

If you say so. I find the behavior of this printer very unpredictable with a new test pattern, and this one is no exception. Now the cyan doesn't look so bad, but the magenta is an abomination! It's also pretty streaked. And look at that K! I'm used to the K looking pretty good on this printer...

Problem w/bizarre intermitten cross contamination (I think)

Ok, I followed your directions and used this colour chart. Here're the results from that test pattern: That's very different from the software test pattern. I believe that those squint graphs are supposed to indicate that the nozzles aren't clogged, which begs the question: how does one...

Problem w/bizarre intermitten cross contamination (I think)

Ok, something's in a big mess here. The other day I was here bragging that I'd some new data about cross contamination, (a quick recap: I have a Canon i860 and I cleaned out a thoroughly contaminated yellow cartridge and refilled it using the German method. My cartridges are all OEM and the only...

Cross contamination: sometimes might be temporary

I've read around here about cross contamination and it seems that it isn't very well understood. I can tell you that my yellow has always been bad, since I first acquired this printer (I never replaced the cartridge). However, the cyan was funny. It turned dark overnight. Well, here's an example...

German method: what if the needle won't penetrate the sponge?

Bingo! They are blunt. But rotating them cw and ccw was probably more effective than back and forth ever would have been. Thanks. I'm hoping the displacement on the sponge (which, again, hasn't effected the part of the sponge at the outlet) won't make a difference.

German method: what if the needle won't penetrate the sponge?

This place is turning into a second home to me. Now my problem is that I'm trying to get the needle into the ink reservoir, but it's having a hard time penetrating the sponge, on this BCI-6 yellow cartridge, which I need to clean out, because it's been contaminated. I'm pretty sure it's OEM. Has...

Flushing German style: how am I doing?

Umm... ok, thanks. So it's clean enough. I don't think there's a lot to tell you about my technique: this was only supposed to be a practise run on a practise cartridge, so if you want to do what I did, forget everything you know, say "stupid is as stupid does, and that's all I have to say about...

Flushing German style: how am I doing?

I've got this cyan BCI-6 cartridge I've been trying to flush, and I'm not sure how good a job I'm doing. The water that comes out the syringe hole, the top vent, and the outlet doesn't look very cyan anymore. However, there are still coloured spots on the sponge, the ball at the top of the ink...

Shelf life of flushed cartridges (BCI)

Ok, very good. But what if it's not for a few months? It wouldn't surprise me if I don't use this cartridge for a year. I guess when it comes down to it: when I have 2 cartridges, what should I do w/the one I'm not using?

Shelf life of flushed cartridges (BCI)

I have a cleaned out BCI-6 cyan cartridge. I don't intend to use it for a while. Do I need to worry about anything atrophying in there? I cleaned it out as practise, because I have 3 other colour cartridges that which have been cross contaminated and will need to be flushed. If I would be best...

Why does the ink turn dark?

You think the purge system might not be working? Is that the same thing as the cleaning/deep cleaning? Because this device has done a lot of sitting around on the shelf I've had to make extensive use of the purge system, and it seems to be successful (although, when I first got it, I had to deep...

Why does the ink turn dark?

It might be a leaking problem, but I don't think it's an after market problem. This is a cartridge like the one I'm using: I think it's OEM, but I haven't been able to get anyone to say. I've taken up the issue of short-term solutions elsewhere.

    Canon i860: getting started

Well, that's the problem: I am using OEM (that is a pic of an OEM up there, right?) that haven't been refilled. Now maybe the problem is that I wasn't using the printer enough. So what should I do when I'm not using the printer for what turns into months? I imagine the answer has something to do...

    Canon i860: getting started

Hmm... how did my e-mail address get there? I thought I had it hidden :( Well, I guess, then, that what I have is OEM. If you don't believe me, here's a snap of a new one, ready to be opened. Excellent! Not only do they provide the inks, but they also provide the syringe and caps. The only...

    Canon i860: getting started

I'm a little surprised that there aren't any comprehensive howtos on how to get into this racket, so I'm going to need to ask a few things. I have an i860 and my cartridges are BCI. I never know what OEM means, since it seems to change w/the context, but all my cartridges have "Canon" on them...

Why does the ink turn dark?

Ah, so this is all about cross contamination, is it? I see this affects a lot of Canons. Does this mean we should never buy Canon again? I see a lot of information and suggestions in these forums, much of which seems apocryphal, and it looks like a lot of work to try everything. Let's start with...

Why does the ink turn dark?

Is old ink supposed to turn dark? The yellow cartridge is the same one that's been in there for God-knows how many years. I assumed that's the reason the yellow is so dark. But the cyan is weird. A couple of days ago I was printing some colour images, and the cyan was bright and beautiful. Then...
