I have a similar situation with my iP4300. http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5513
I did open my iP4300 to have easy access to the paper exit port.
But you can feed a folded paper from the left side of your printer and cut the power when the paper emerges from the exit port...
But the http://officestoredepot.com/qy6-0073canonprintheadclickhere.aspx yields a different set of Canon printers which use the same print head as the MP640.
PIXMA MP540, MP620, MP640, iP3600, MX860, MX870
I did the tests again today...
The bad print head continued to give me the wrong cartridge message. While the good print head turned off the display and light after a few seconds.
Sorry for the mis-information earlier.
I did both with the bad print head and the good print head from the iP3000. Display and lights went out a few seconds after putting in the print head. After that, nothing happened when I hit any key. I assume that the power went out. To get the display and lights back, I need to take the...
Without the print head, MP730 displayed "Put in cartridge" message. I did risked the print head from my $5 iP3000. It turned off the display and lights after a few seconds. Fortunately, the print head is still working.
Good idea. I am thinking of cleaning and keeping the purge unit too.
I disassemble the MP730. Manually turned the print head locking gear clockwise. Moved the print head to center. Removed the print head. It powered up again. But the power went out a few seconds after I put back the print head. I will take this to recycle depot.
This is the first time to...
Thank you for the warnings and comments.
If I ever get it back to "wrong cartridge" message, I will try my $5 print head from the iP3000. Otherwise, I will let it rest in peace.
When I have time, I will disassemble it to take out the print head and determine whether it will power up or not.
Few weeks ago, I got a Canon MP730 multifunction from a local recycle group member. When I got it, the print head was at the center position. LCD displayed "wrong cartridge" message. I knew that I need to find a replacement print head. So, I powered it down and let it park the printhead...
This is amazing... Are you still use water to clean the sponge? If not, it is perfect method to use with the German refill because it do not need extra hole required by purge by water method.
It was a small button in the paper path. I put a marrow strip of photo paper in the reverse direction up the paper path to loosen the button. Turn the printer upside down - the button came out.
Did a couple of cleaning cycles. The nozzle check is good. Another spare printer in the basement.
I took the cover off and found the location at the left side that stopping the paper from moving through. I am going through the service manual on how to get inside.
I got a Canon iP4300 printer with paper feed problem. The paper skews to the right and jam. It seems that something is at the left side of the paper path preventing the paper from going through. But the right side continues to feed the paper. Then, paper jam.
I have turned the printer...

iP4500, Mp610 and MX850 are great printers using the same printing mechanical engine and print head. Watch for your local ad at Kijiji and Craigslist for them. Bring a set of cartridges and a few pieces of paper to test it out before paying.
Last week, I purchased a iP4500 for $10 from a...
Metallo,
If you have empty cartridges,
1. Clean the cartriges to get rid of any residue ink.
2. Fill the cartridges with Windex.
3. Put the Windex cartridges in your printer.
4. Do deep cleaning and nozzle check repeatedly until no ink shown on nozzle check.
5. Store your print head in...

It is Canada wide. Staples Canada used to run promotion - a package of 500 sheet 8.5x11 paper exchange for the cartridges with integral printhead like HP.
I emailed them a few months ago. They still accept ink cartridges to recycle. But no compensation similar to US program.
