The Hat:
Thank you for the links. Sorry to be such a nuisance, but I'm apparently not as good at searching as you are. I'll try not to ask so many questions and do better searches. It must get old for all you masters of refilling to get the same dumb questions all the time from us newbies...
Have I understood correctly that you reset before you refill?
Also, some YouTube videos show a reset procedure when the light on the cartridge inside the printer is blinking (showing that the cartridge is low or out of ink). I'm assuming that resetting the cartridge then will stop the blinking...
If anyone has info on this or knows where on this forum I can find the proper way to flush a MP990 printhead, I would be grateful.
I need to know how to properly secure the cartridges so they won't leak while I'm flushing the printhead.
Do I need to purchase clips for the 220/221 carts? Or...
If anyone has info on purging, flushing, drying the 220/221 carts, or where on this forum I can find it I would be most grateful. I've read other threads on this subject for other carts, but not these.

Thank you for that tip on dating ink bottles and carts. I'm keeping a computer file on all that I'm learning about refilling and I feel like I've tapped into an encyclopedia of wonderful info. It's time to do a backup of all this info. Don't want to lose it.
If you could explain...

You had mentioned on another string that in order to protecdt your printhead, you marked your carts with the date of the refill to guard against using old inks. Do you mark the bulk bottle of ink as well? Or, is the date of expiration on the bottle of bulk ink? Thank you for your...

I just re-examined my carts and they have the clear ink window. Yeah!!! Actually, I haven't run out of ink yet, nor have I done a refill either. I just ordered a refill kit from Octoink which I will use the SquEasy top fill method. This kit comes with 6 large bottles of ink, ink bottle...

Thank you for that great info. I'm really glad you said what you did because I just purchased an entire refill kit from Octoink.
If I stick a toothpick in a full cartridge, which would mark the amount of ink, then couldn't I stick another toothpick into an empty cartridge, refill...
Bought two MP990's and I think both came with opaque 220 and 221 carts. It is hard to tell with ink in them because the cart is very dark looking, but it really looks opaque.
Is the plug method going to be a real problem with opaque carts?
Octoink has the tipped and flat plugs. Are these...
I've installed (one) of my 2 new MP990's and so far so good. I am going to refill and I was wondering if anyone could make a recommendation on their favorite chip resetter. I see they can be battery operated or usb type.
What chip resetter do you use for this machine?
What is your...
Well, the Canon printer has to be better technology than my old hp C4180 of about 6 years of age. And, that improved technology will be an anxiously awaited experience for me.
Yes, mixing all colors will make a dark grey/brown, but NEVER a rich black I don't care how transparent the colors are, this is why printer makers make a black cartridge and why printing presses use black ink as well. In the CMYK model if you had to make black (or a gunky/murky blackish brown...
I would think in an inkjet printer, since all the past printers have had only black & color ink cartridges, that they do not have to have a grey ink cartridge because a small spray of black will make grey as it mixes with the white of the paper. It has in the past, it could now. However, I...
Inkjet printer expert I'm not, but on color mixing, I DO know something about that. I stand by my earlier statement so whether you are using pencil wax, watercolors, oils, chalks, paint in a hardware store, or inks, you CANNOT make a dark color without black, and you cannot take an intense...
