So we're saying that the RedSetter evidently resolves the problem that was present previously? I asked Michele about it and she didn't know anything about this although (with all due respect, Michele) she isn't the inventor so may not know how the firmware works. It wouldn't take much to...
The only problems I can see with the sprays is that it's an additional step and more trouble for a single burn here and there. That, and I imagine there's at least some risk of overspray (at least the mist) getting on the business side of the disc.
I hadn't heard of using hairspray. Won't...
I use Taiyo Yudens that cost about $0.75 per disc (single layer DVD) and Moser Baers that cost about $0.64 each. Double layer discs do get a lot more expensive. The TY are supposed to be scratch resistant, but I haven't tested that. I'll take their word for it.
I'll keep in mind the color...
I agree that the surface probably has more to do with the waterproof nature than does teh ink, but I'd hate to find out how wrong I am the hard way. LOL
The coating on the discs I use is smooth.
I see that several brands of ink are recommended on this forum. Which is closest to the OEM Canon ink? I print on CDs frequently and use waterproof glossy discs. After printing with the Canon ink, I've placed a printed disc under running water with no ill effect on the image. If I scrub the...
This is all very good information and it seems that the RedSetter from Michele is the way to go in the US. Some months ago, when I first got my Pixma MP970, I recall a discussion of potentially resetting the carts and an issue with reusing the same cartridge in the same printer even if it was...
Buzzly,
I wish you nothing but good luck with your printer. From all accounts, it's one of the best printers out there in terms of print quality. I got mine for $160 but I've seen them for even less than that. I also hacked the firmware to allow me to print on DVDs which was one of the...
Well, Canon has responded already:
"Thank you for contacting Canon product support. We value you as a Canon
customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. I am sorry that
your PIXMA MP970 is experiencing an ink error.
There are no known issues with this printer. We will be glad to...
I just need to vent a bit. Forgive me. I have a not-yet-four-month-old Canon PIXMA MP970 printer with all OEM cartridges. About a month ago, I started getting this U150 error that the BK cart was not recognized. The LED on teh cart was off but it was still nearly full! I reseated it, the...
@ mikling: THAT's the kind of comparison I was looking for. When it all boils down, though, the only real advantage the Epson has is its Claria inks since with a little effort I can retrofit the Canon to print on CDs. We don't do a lot of any one type of printing. It's a mix of text...
@cannonfodder: Thanks for that info. The thread I was basing my assumptions on was a long one from about a year ago. The discussion there led me to believe that the prism was the first check of the cart's level. I thought that if you never got to that first milestone, the printer wouldn't...
Thank you all for your comments.
@ eixty: There are two rebates being offered on the MP970. One is for $100 for the printer only, the other is for $100 on the printer WITH the purchase of a Canon camera. I don't know how to post a link and I doubt that I can yet, but if you look up the...
I always appreciate forums like this where knowledgable experts share their experiences.
I've been considering a new printer to replace our slow HP722C. Home use. I don't print a lot but want better quality photo printing. I couldn't find an HP or Epson with the impressive specs and features...
