A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum..

I did some 8550 matte profiles that went ... blue. With the VFA setting you can get it to print with the Pigment black. Keep us informed please! Edmund

Can this be true: spectro quality printer profiles with this software and a scanner.....???

The general problem is doubtless ugly; when some parameters are roughly known by the factory, I guess you get some results which are sufficient for most people's use. Think of the scanner as a digital camera with some added lights. If you're truly desperate, you can make a color target made out...

There is one thing I'd like to know: Can one one acquire data programmatically or does one have to press a button to make this thing work?

How to generate a simple RGB printer profile using ArgyllCMS and the CR30 colorimeter/spectrophotometer

Ink sometimes gets dragged downwards by rollers; I now think randomizing is a good idea, although I prefer to look at targets by eye to assess the inking and there sequential ramps help. Edmund

How many color patches are needed for a (good) profile ?

The advantage of fairly small size targets of a few hundred patches is they are smooth, which is desirable for general photography. Paradoxically, I seem to remember large patch sets can lead to overfitting, and color that "break" so eg. you can see abrupt magenta/green change in a face...
