Well, I don't have those great Wyoming skies to look at, so I have to look at the ground. Everyone has something to photograph. :)

So correct. The unspoken secret for getting a POW is to photograph nature. In spring time flowers are an easy choice.

Nature, or a superior being if you prefer that notion, takes care of the shape, colour, texture, sometimes even the composition.

Basically, for the photographer, it is just a case of f8 and be there!

Couple of small additional tips - soft light with low contrast is important - early morning or late evening. Get close and low if necessary. Look for items to increase interest - bees, strange shapes or colours. Take a spray bottle of water, and if the subject looks boring spray some drops on the petals and leaves.

One final comment - The subject MUST BE PRISTINE.

Happy shooting. Hope to see some subjects in the upcoming POW. Here in the great white north we have just had another foot of snow. Will be a month or more before I can get out to shoot the flowers.

I was trying to catch some clouds - that's what I got
Clouds.jpg
- just a few shades of gray...

barely getting back home the sun is coming out and the grays are lightening up, but the clouds are by far not as impressive yet as in Wyoming

Beautiful light, Fingers. (Should I call you Ink or Fingers?) I was born in that stuff.
