I just purchased a Canon Pixma 7520 and will need to replace the set up inks it came with. I went on eBay and did a search for my particular model. Tons of 3rd party ink sets came up reasonably priced. However I don't know if this stuff is any good and or safe to use? I read on here about refills? How does that work and is that a safer option than what you would buy on eBay?

Thanks,
Naydeen

Hi @Naydeen and welcome, you have two choices with your machine, to continue to use OEM carts and ink and pay through the nose for that privilege or switch over to 3rd party inks and carts.

The problems you face are if you sell you prints it’s advisable to use OEM carts and inks but if you don’t then get a good set of compatibles carts with proper ARC chips on them and use good quality inks.

The iP7520 uses OEM carts that are not that easy to refill but the biggest problem while using them is you can’t reset or replace the on board chip which leaves you printing blind, (No ink monitoring).

As you have found there are many products on EBay, but which ones are best to use is the question your asking, I would recommend you check out precisioncolors.com they have the good quality ink your looking for and most likely refillable carts also..

The main question is what you would expect from 3rd party inks - no seller would be willing or able to give you information how close their inks would match the original inks colorwise, and no supplier
has information about the fade resistance of their inks. Fade resistance under UV radiation/sun/light and/or exposure to ozone makes the biggest difference between original inks an other suppliers. So it depends what you or your customers are planning to do with the printouts. And as soon as you are not using original inks and papers but any other combination of inks and 3rd party papers you are
advised to get an icc-color profile made for any of those combinations for a correct color rendition during printing.

Thanks for the replies. I will be staying away from the inks on eBay. I googled and found a local place that does replacement cartridges for the XL sixe tank sizes around $60 for all six carts.
The place is called Cartridge World don't know if anyone has any experience with them. I looked at Precision Color and watched a video not sure that is the route I want to go. This printer is for just home use not anything where I am selling prints of my photos (although I may want to print a photo for myself/friends/family) just trying to find the best cost effective ink. :)
