After the successfully save of a pro 10, i got my dirty hands over a pro 10s that was sitting idle for 2 years. Most cartridges weren't empty but some were very low. I didn't installed a potty yet so i don't know if the printer attempted anything, headcleaning related, when i fired it up. and still not sure how much ink is soaked when you change the cartridges. Anyway i swapped all cartridges with inktek refilled ones, from printout24, and gave it a try.

Right After the swap, the printer perform some kind of purge that restarted most of the colors but not all. Y was missing, R is not perfect, PC a small band and GY was drunk.

immediatly after a head cleaning Y came back but not entirely, GY was better but not perfect, PC and R are now fine.

I let the printer sit for 2 hours and now GY is completely fine, Y was still missing the bottom.

I let the printer sit for 2 days and the Y is now fine.

Conclusions : Time is an ally, a single head cleaning was enough to recover this pro 10s that was sitting idle for 2 years. I wasn't that experienced with the pro-10 but it roughly went the same. The most expensive part was mostly investing in ink and resetter. And finding a second set of empty cartridge wasn't that easy either but now that i have it i'm fine.

Next step is salvaging ink from a pro-1 and try that ink in the pro-10s over the inktek one (that i don't like) and see how it goes. the step after that might be trying octoink ink. Oh and i want to find a pro 100 !

All the colours look good but unusual for the CO. to be missing ?
CO is there but with inktek's CO it is even less noticeable than with canon's.

I just refilled 2 set of pgi-72 using pgi-29 ink, i'll post a scan of the nozzle check once i do the swap.

I have to figure what happened to a Red cartridge first. It seems it has dried from inside. Refilling it is really slow. And i constently have foam forming on the nozzle when i squeeze the cartrdige. Have you ever experienced something like that ? I should ditch it but i wonder if venting all air and putting fresh ink inside will saves it

You may need to flush out the cart to get back to good working order, you can get one of these flush clips from OctoInkjet or make one yourself, they make cleaning real easy..octoinkjet.JPG

Yes i was thinking about that. I want to order a potty from them and was wondering what kind of model i should get for the pro 10.

What do you think of their ink compared to canon's ? Inktek one fell quite far away from canon's and i don't have calibration tools to make my own profiles.

I reached out to Martin at Octoinkjet regarding a waste ink receiver for my Pro-10S last week - he noted that there wasn't one specifically designed for this printer but that the following would be suitable:
https://www.octoink.co.uk/products/Duo-Max-Waste-Kit.html
He went on to say: "Please put in a note to say "Please include two of each of 3/32in and 1/16in straight through adapters for tube compatibility" as the canon tubes are can be a little thinner."
ah thank's, good insight ! i'll probably put an order in the next couple of weeks. I'm trying to figure if i should go all retard with genuine canon's ink coming from pgi 29 cartridges (there is a 85€ deal on C/M/Y/PC/PM/R on amazon right now) or if i go with octoink ink. I don't have mean to calibrates and i didn't liked inktek's ink.

Here you go, any one will do the job..

My refill inks and Potties have come from OctoInkjet for the last 15 years..
Any issues talk to customer Service..
i was more refering as how you think octoink is compared to canon's. Are there significants differences or is it good enough to be used as it without calibration ?

That I can’t answer because I don’t know how fussy you are, I have never calibrated any of my inks in all my time using 3rd party ink, I use the printer settings to make any adjustments I might need..

You got it right letting time do the work !
But what makes you think you need a potty for a printer with only 650 pages ?

I just want to. It's both to keep the "waste tank" clean (canon should be hanged for handling waste ink like that !) and to monitor how the printer waste it's ink. I'll also put one on a pro-1 and try to revive it but i have to flush the printhead and having 150ml of ink down the drain makes me sick. So not sure how i'll proceed
