Canon decided to take their warranty repair and a lot of their official parts sales back in house about a year ago much the to surprise of the vendors who used to do it.

I did talk to some contacts I've built up over the last decade or so and nobody seems to know why it has happened but now if you want a spare printhead for some of the higher end models you have to go through warranty support at Canon and push hard to find someone who isn't just first line support.

Hard to be sure the rational here but it has certainly created some interesting problems for anyone who is trying to source replacements or spares.

As for CRC-Tasktron I just located an old phone number and checked. They have a voicemail message indicating that the company has now closed permanently so Canons decision has undoubtedly had major implications for them. Gutted frankly as they were a very human and approachable team.
EDIT: Just read your post Peter... Yeah, this confirms it all round... :/

Shocking news indeed about Tasktron and Canon new policy as well. As I suspected, they seem to be closing all doors for fixing printers with problems, not only to final users but vendors as well. Now, what happens if the printhead of your Pro10/100/200/300/1000 fails, you have no spare and the printer is no longer in warranty ?.
1: Send it to Canon for repair. Not worthwhile considering the final price ( shipping, labor time, spare parts).
2; Gamble on Aliexpress or Ebay hoping that the printhead you receive is in good working order.
3: Purchase a new Pro-200/300/1000. Not cheap and the Pro200/300 haven't a chip resetter.
4: Search for an used printer near your location so you can check in situ the condition of the machine. Depending on where you live, that can mean a long, long wait.
5: Forget about Canon Pro printers.

P.S::
I 'm thinking of getting a couple of printheads for my Maxify before Canon decides to put the plug on these too,.

Good idea.
Both the PRO-10 and Maxify printheads are very sturdy when you and print regularly (one every few weeks is enough, forget the nozzle print scheduling and other nonsense).
Don't fiddle too much with inks either (Precision Colors, Octoink.co.uk and Canon large format inks - most possibly also PRO-1000 - are 100% safe for the PRO-10, get GI-56 bottles for the Maxify).
Nevertheless I have a spare (printer and head) for both.
I even had a new printhead for the PRO-9500 II, but I installed it 3 or 4 years ago to print office work and spare the PRO-10. Still going strong.

Everyone is worried about their future printing and Canon spare parts, I have reduced the amount of printers I had to just two, namely the Pro 9500 and the Maxify, and I’m sending the last inkjet printer (i9950) I had to a dear friend in Belfast.

I have seen the writing on the wall from the arguments I’d had trying to get the Pro 1 to print the way I wanted, but the same can’t be said for the Pro 10 that @palombian got me, I was completely at odds with it and got rid of it, out of pure frustration..

My love for inkjet printing has all but gone because I recognise my limitation when dealing with these intelligent printers, I just don’t have the patience I once had for them, so I’m not too worried about getting spare parts going forwards.

Our printers can’t live for ever..
P.S. I do have a spare Maxify in its box, for just in case… The Print heads were out of stock at the time....

Guess whose Maxify falls in the second category.. :rolleyes:.

Your the second person to mention problems with the Yellow on Maxify. My query about Maxify printhead cleaning started because of a customer with the exact same problem.

So, it seems OEM yellow isn't all that great after all but then again I'm assuming that based on two reports and very little additional info.

As for the parts situation, it may still be possible to purchase the parts but until anyone tries it's going to be difficult to be sure. It does sound like a dumb ass move though particularly given the interest and momentum that has built behind "Right to Repair".

I have to clarify that the troublesome yellow channel used first the ink from a Canon original PGI-2500-XLcart. After that I refilled with yellow ink from Canon GI-56 bottles. Both OEM inks but, I assume, with somehow different formulation.
Maybe the printhead didn't like the mixture of inks. Anyway, the cyan and magenta channels are in the same boat regarding ink mix and no clog problems at all.
