Temporarily sold out ;)
that's not surprising ^^ Precision Color even modified it to run with Pigment ink (I don't know how reliable this is).

But jokes a part, I think that a pro 100 refilled with ET8550 inks + G550 red ink + Custom PM and PC made with distilled water of the ET8550 inks will be probably a very cheap beast to run.

I can run Canon inks in Epson printers but not the other way around, I tried that long time ago, and water as a dilutant won't work either, I'm running a clear ink, actually a cleaner from octopus office to dilute my light inks - L1800, Pro 7600

that's very interesting that Dye inks from Epson do not work on canon printer. Too bad I think this would have been a great combo

Precision Colors has to do this since there are almost no refillable printers anymore.

Very inventive and courageous, but as long as you have a printer as easy as a PRO-10, why would you fill an ET8850 with 3th party pigment inks when the original dye inks are sold in bottles, have a high gamut (as you suggest) and gloss and are probably sufficiently fade resistant? (and at 20ct/ml very affordable when you did buy the printer already)

I could imagine to buy it instead of a PRO-300 when I run out of PRO-10's.

BTW they seem to be available at amazon.de

The price increased ! I paid 750e for it.

To be honest, I will not refill the ET8550, 70ml of ink cost 16e I have other things to do than save 5e per bottle and having much worst quality inks.

ATM I am having an internal thought about what I am doing with 2 printers since the ET8550 from the test that I have done is as good as the pro 10 (except pro 10 is a pigment ink and the fact that I don't do B&W). But let's see maybe I will have a good reason to keep it. At least I am very happy with both, I just was expecting more from the Pro 10 on mate papers. :)

Refiling the pro 10 has some sense if you do high volume prints because the ink in Germany costs 15e + shipping per cartridge.

I do not print often on matte papers, only for posters (=temporarily use, not to frame).
First of all it doesn't work for all images, second I use the sliders to give more pop.
Mostly on the PRO-9500II to save my PRO-10.

I would be delighted when you attach the icc files ;)

The ink base is a mix of water and glycoles with different ratios in Epson and Canon inks, there is one relevant physical property which is important - the amount of energy to heat and boil the ink and expel the ink drops - thermal/bubble printing method - and there are other parameters like viscosity and surface tension which need to stay in correct ratios by the ink components , you can look them up in the MSDS - Material Data Safety Sheets - .

Epson 106 inks - perfectly suitable for the ET-8550 - run at 9€ in Germany. Just forget 3rd party inks, there are none which come close to the Epson inks in regards of longevity.

But the preference for dye inks or pigment inks is not so much a pricing matter but much more a question of preference - which papers you use - what is going to happen with the prints etc
