Hi,

I am new to the printing world.
Have just purchased used Canon Pro-1 and it seems have an issue.

I have run print head Cleaning for Group 1 (GY, PBK, LGY, DGY) two times with about 14 hours in between two operations. Unfortunately my fears have been confirmed and cleaning didn't help a bit.

From the Nozzle Check print it seems to be electronic failure (not nozzle clog).
I am attaching Nozzle Check print.
Print head alignment indicates severe problem in A and D columns.
I believe these are Grey (GY) and Dark Grey (DGY) colors from corresponding Nozzle Check print.

What should I do next?
Should I attempt more Group 1 cleaning, Deep cleaning or something else?
The seller of the printer (wedding photographer) insist I should proceed with more cleaning.

Your help is much appreciated.

Firstly welcome, Now down to brass tacks..

Your nozzle check can say more than anything else and it’s not good what its saying, both the Grey and Dark Grey blocks have electrical issues, and no amount of cleaning will undo that damage.

Normally I would say do one or several head cleans to start with, but you already have done that and the results are now as clear as day light, and Print head alignments can’t and won’t change a thing, in fact there’re useless in this situation.

I’d go back to the previous owner and get your money back because you’ve just bought a lemon, my comment may seem abrupt and unexpected but they are not intended to be, fact is fact the printer is dead in the water, but not to a point where it can’t be saved.

If you can retrieve all your money, then you could put that towards buying a new print head and possibly inks too, and this will bring the printer back to its finest, it will be costly yes, but worth it for the quality the printer can produce..

Have a discussion with the owner and make him see since, otherwise you have a door stop on your hand that needs to be dumped..

Buyer says to Seller: "I want a refund and I keep the printer."

Thank you for a blazing fast answer.

I studied what Canon pigment photo printers are and how to use them properly.
I'm afraid previous owner didn't use printer for the last couple of months, maybe longer.
When he was selling it, the printer was advertised as reliable and in perfect working order.
Probably, I was a bit naïve here, taking into account for how long printer has idled.

I started with Nozzle Check print one day after I received the printer.
Unfortunately, the printer has to be already with dried ink / head issues.

I really like the machine, it will be hard to find another one.
I am happy to pay market price for the printer, but it has to be working properly.

Why is it the truth always strike a dull note, the facts are quite clear to anyone with a Canon printer, your approach to printing was careless and bad, and I stated so, and I wasn’t going to sugar coated for balling up a perfectly good printer with your personal assumptions.

You can go where you like for more recommendation, but the answer will still be the same, the printer is Fubar and I was try to save you money by tell you to forget it, so once again I’ll say it, the Pro 1 is a very expensive lady and you couldn’t afford her..

If you reckon the truth is all Cow shit, then you’re sitting in it, because you not making any friends by calling the good advice you got here generic..!

The next printer you get, try starting with the maintenance facilities before a print, because you’d be surprised how easy it is to keep your printer in good working order, instead of assuming it will be alright because it’s you, if you want a guarantee then buy a Feckin toaster..
:) turns out that not all advice is equal (and thankfully not all advice givers either)!! Quite a simple fix really in the end suggested by a local print lab. Thanks anyway for your time and efforts, a reasonable attempt but must try harder. Now for some toast.

That’s one way of going about it, and I hope you got deep pockets, because the fix isn’t going to be cheap… And transporting is another thing that can catch you out.. I can’t please everyone..
So come back and tell us how you got on..

This approach may work for small value items from Aliexpress, but rarely on sales between final users.
The vendor might say for instance: 'printer was OK. You say it isn't. It's your word against mine, Send back the machine. If I'm proven wrong, I'll refund you'.

I wonder if previous owner of the printer knew about issues. I can see from EEPROM there were serious errors in the past.

Unfortunately, the printer has to be already with dried ink / head issues.
The two-toned straight line issues in the GY and DGY are irreparable electrical malfunctions, most likely in the print head, but may be due to or include the logic assay board. This is different than clogged nozzles. Odds are high a new print head will resolve the issues if these are the only issues, though this cannot be guaranteed.

I don't know what is going on with the Magenta in the CO swath or the Magenta you can vaguely see elsewhere on the page. Did you print something on the other side of the page and it is bleeding through?
