A Xerox of an original is still a copy with imperfections.

You are comparing your OEM Epson ink to an aftermarket ink. That's all. It is not a comparison to OEM Canon.

Before accepting that Mikling's ink is as you say, I would want proof.

Maybe someone can provide you with an OEM Canon gamut on that paper. This would be best.

Yes, but that's the closest I can get at this time, I don't know anybody who is running a Pro-200 at this time and can create an icm-profile for me. But it is interesting nevertheless that a 3rd party ink tuned for Canon can deliver a significantly wider gamut than Epson inks on Epson printers.

True.

The Pro 200 has 8 inks and the Epson has 6. All things being equal, you wouldn't be surprised that an 8 ink Canon to have a wider gamut than a 6 ink Epson. In my brief reading, though, one can expand the gamut by means other than increasing the number of different inks available.

Can you try a more Apples - Apples comparison with either a similar 8 color Epson or a 6 color Canon? Precision Colors has lots of ICC printer profiles available for 6 color Canons.

I replaced the Epon cyan and magenta in the tanks of the ET-8550 via the tubes at the printhead and filled the tanks with the Canon 53 bottled ink - Chromalife 100 - of the G620/650 Megatank printer model, to see if these inks make a difference for the gamut at lower luminance levels.

I love surprises..
Is it a surprise ? - there is no difference at all - these are the gamuts with the Epson and the Canon ink at mid lum. - 50% , these profiles made for the PT101 pro Platinum Canon paper.

There is no difference - it appears to me that these inks are identical . The Pro-200 uses Chromalife 100+ inks, but it is not clear to me whether the '+' indicates just more inks in the inkset for this printer or indicates an improvement of whatever kind over the Chromalife 100 ink - without a '+' - I don't know.

I intend to provide some supplementary information to more detailed ET-8550 tests with this thread, but I'm not planning to run full tests in different scenarios - printers with 4 or 5 or 6 or 8 inks etc - including other printers like the XP-15000 or the IP8750 or IX6850 as other A3 printers .

I'll have a look to the photo and pigment black inks of the ET-8550 next.

One claimed improvement of Chromalife 100 in the new and improved Chromalife 100+ is archival longevity 100 years --> 300 years album life, a more neutral black, and ink migration resistance caused by heat and humidity. While Canon claims 300 years in a well controlled album environment, they claim 50 years against light and 10 years against gases.

Concerning Gas fastness, Canon makes this confusing statement:

Gas fastness has been improved with the combination of new genuine Canon dye inks, our FINE print heads and Photo Paper Plus Glossy II or Photo Paper Pro Platinum photo papers. It achieved “gas fastness approximately 20 years” which is no longer than “gas fastness approximately 10 years” with the ChromaLife 100 system.*

* Based on accelerated testing by Canon in dark storage under controlled temperature, humidity and gas conditions, simulating storage in an album with plastic sleeves. Canon cannot guarantee the longevity of prints; results may vary depending on printed image, drying time, display/storage conditions and environmental factors.

Red River Paper is offering a wide range of profiles for their papers

https://www.redrivercatalog.com/profiles/inkjet-printer-color-icc-profiles-red-river-paper.html

for Canon and Epson printers running with genuine OEM inks

Precisioncolors provides as well a selection of profiles for various papers - mainly Red River papers with their PC... inksets with a claim to match the OEM colorwise very well. When comparing their profiles to the RedRiver versions for the same paper and printer you get quite a good congruence overall and I'm pretty confident that the Pro200 profile is no exeption here.

My tests with both ChromaLife100 inks are still going on. No really significant differences till now.
ChromaLife100+ Is used in the printers with the nozzles for 1 pl. I read somewhere that therefore viscosity is also different but can’t remember the source. MM

@stratman - yes, I remember that case, he was quite reluctant with some more details about his methods etc so I just took the available data to compare.

@maximilian59 - the Pro-200 does not run 1pl droplets to my knowledge, but anyway - some of those improvements claimed for the + ink are not directly visible to the user. Getting clear info about even simple parameters like the 1pl is sometimes pretty difficult for Canon printers

Surprise, surprise, keep it coming, @Ink stained Fingers, I trust your testing over most, because you have no axe to grind, and you say it as you see it …
Promise we won’t mention Canuckastan…
