It seems such a pity to get a new print head because the PM block is not fully functioning, but damaged it is, in the meantime try and source a new head and every few days turn the printer on and run another nozzle check, because that PM block just might recover, but its dough full..

Thanks - I’ll start looking for one. So far I’m only finding them on eBay.

Any chance you can share the instructions so I can see what I’m signing up for?

Don't buy a printhead from Ebay. It is most likely from China and a used and defective printhead that has been cleaned to look like new and packaged in a fake foil bag and cardboard box, Instead buy from a regular dealer of Canon spare parts, for instance like this.

Changing the print head is all straight forwards when you know what you’re doing, but your problem will be finding a genuine new print head from an authorised dealer like the one that @PeterBJ mentioned and then having enough ink to carry out the procedure..
Let’s not jump the gun before we know we have all the necessary bits for the job in hand..

Found a print head through Canon parts. I can order tomorrow and have in hand by Friday. The benefits of being only a few hours South of the Canon DC in Chicago. Print head direct from Canon was 233.00 USD.

I can remember installing the print head on initial setup - but it'd be great to see the steps and how to avoid any mess.

Just to confirm before dropping the head cost, and a fair amount of lost ink - there is no other electronic part in the chain that would mimic a clogged, or burnt photo magenta head like we saw in the test print above? It'd be a downer to install a new head and find out it was something else. Hope not - I do like this printer!

Picked up two Canon Pro-1 printers and I don't know the history of them. They both had original Canon ink tanks in them, I bough a few 3rd party ink tanks to help with cleanings and nozzle checks (I have not printed out anything as per the advice in this thread). I think both are fubar unless the printhead(s) get replaced but will post the nozzle checks here for verification / advice. I suppose the ink carts would be worth something as they can be used for refill and chip replacements, not sure of the power supply or logic boards would be worth parting out of these machines. If they need printheads (and I suspect they do), I will just part these printers out. They are in good shape physically, and it would be a shame to toss them, but they do take up a good amount of space and they seem to be very temperamental and have to be used pretty much daily to keep them working properly. Not to mention the appetite for ink these printers seem to have. Please see the attached files for the nozzle checks from each printer.

If you’re not prepared to get new print heads then you have got yourself two lovely door stops, and you’ve done the previous owners a great service by taking them off their hands.

The Pro 1 is a lovely printer when used frequently and an ink guzzler when left ideal for long periods, it’s very reliable and the beautiful prints that it can do will leave you speechless, but it’s got to work first… Sorry..
