Error code 6a00

Hi, thanks for letting me join. I have just had the error message 6a00 come up on the screen of my MP610 printer whilst I was printing a batch of 6x4 photos. Another site suggested I cleaned the printer head wiper but have done this without success. The printer turns on, goes through a part setup but then the error code appears. Is there anything else I can do to cure the problem?

It may have something to do with your purge unit, try moving the print head to the left side of the carriageway and then flooding the purge unit with window cleaner, then close the top lid and wait a minute or two to see if the error resets.. It may need further cleaning or maintenance..

According to 'druckerchannel.de' error 6A00 means :
"AP position error. There may be foreign objects or the orange protective tape in the device blocking the printhead carriage".
This a Google translation from the original German. Take it with a grain or two of salt.
If you ask me, the link provided by@stratman makes more sense. Any foreign object blocking the carriage would be easy to spot but, as a last ressource, maybe it's worth to inspect carefully the carriage path.

According to the service manual the error is related to the purge unit, as also mentioned by stratman. Here is a clip from the service manual.:

My thanks to you all for info. I have further investigated after giving the printer head a thorough clean then found the printer head will move to the left manually when power off. Cleaned the ink pads, then by looking at further info found the wiper unit not moving. Cleaned that and got it easily moving manually. Switched the printer back on but still got same error message however did notice that the ink pad holder was moving up & down & the wiper unit was moving back & forwards. The print head moved once on it own but has not moved since despite switching on & off several times, also the ink pads & wiper unit do not move every time.
The printer sat unused for several mons due to covid and my need of a major operation. Maybe this lack of use has contributed to the problem.
On the day of the error message appearing I had ad printed over 100 6x4 photos when it suddenly stopped with the error message.
Don't know if this gives any further clues to what the actual problem is it if so any further info would be much appreciated. I would like to get it working again as I have about £60+ worth of new ink tanks which I would rather not waste.

The first link in my post above discusses the purge pads movement or lack thereof. Did you follow those instructions? Maybe the purge pads are once again jammed up and not moving properly.

Did you try The Hat's suggestion in the second link of feeding a piece of cardstock through to possibly push out potential paper debris?
