Maybe you could use the inks from the new G520 and refill carts. With resetter you can always fill them up and then change a complete set of carts. So you start again and again with a full set. Refillable carts for this printer should be very cheap. If your already used carts are transparent you can start refilling these. So you can also look for carts with the biggest v

Hi, i'm confused about this message.

Are you saying in can increase the number of pages i can print with my Canon Pixma iX6820 by using the ink from the Canon PIXMA G5020?

How would this work?

The alternative of placing the printer in a leak proof tray might be a temporary fix but for heavy duty printing that won't do. Sooner or later it would end up in a mess
On a side note if and this is a strong if, the waste pads start to overflow, you can place a tray below the printer with its own waste pads..
I stand in my opinon that current Canon Pro models up to A3+ size (i.e. below the Pro1000 ) aren't a good solution for @artprint1 needs.
Funny that, because I used these very same machines for more than ten years for high volume and they behaved remarkably well during the task..

I don't imagine printing forty or fifty 13x19" canvas prints a day, all year long, with a Pro10.
Printing ten hours daily; replacing and refilling the carts every two or three days and, after a few months, expecting at any moment a messy ink overflow.
Definitively, this is a case of irreversible disagreement between you and me..:D

That could take years, these waste pads have a huge intake volume, and 1 to 2 ml a day cleaning is nothing in the long run, and changing all carts together keeps waste to a minimum, as I said it could take forever..

Done that, wore the tee-shirt and never had to worry about the waste pads, on these big printers, plus @artprint1 biggest worry are the running costs of ink..

First the printer I meant is the Pixma G620 with ChromaLife100 inks.
Second, yes I think you need less changes.
Everytime you change a cartridge a cleaning cycle is performed for all others too. So with each change you waste ink and this goes on and on. If you change always the whole set it is one cleaning cycle till the first one runs empty again. Definitely you have more inks on the prints and less in the waste pads.
I am interested whether you have to change the printer often because of filled waste pads. How many prints can you make with such a home printer?
Cheers,
Maximilian

The waste ink counter is essentially a non sequitur for OP.

OP states using Artisan 1420 and the Canon Pixma iX6820 and said

"I have used wastepad reset software before to hack our Artisan printer. But I never actually changed out the hardware."

No complaints of overflowing waste ink. I doubt he will undergo the laborious process of disassembling the printer to washout or replace diaper pads when he does not like having to replace cartridges at the rate he currently does.

Maybe he would consider the much simpler process of installing an external waste ink tank on his Epson such as the one in this video. It even comes with software waste ink counter resetter. Note there is also a link to the CISS he uses. Maybe @Ink stained Fingers or someone else familiar with Epson and CISS can advise. Links to all on the video page.

BTW, the guy in the video recycles his waste ink in the CISS. There are instructions on the external waste ink tank. Have no idea if this is asking for trouble but he seems to have done it with good effect (if you don't mind Black being a little funky). :idunno

The point here is a second Artisan with CISS and external waste ink tank may suit OP's needs and comfort zone.

@websnail would be the most competent source for information about waste ink potties
He may be but Octoink is in England. Shipping costs add up for someone in North America.

Octoink sells a single use resetter separately. The cost of the Printer Potty and the single use only resetter together is more than the cost of the external waste ink tank with multi use resetter I linked. Then there is the shipping cost from Octoink. Shipping is included in the eBay price of $25.75.

Unless the Printer Potty is significantly advantageous, a North America resident may be better off cost-wise with the eBay deal.

One caution would be to ask the eBay seller about the resetter and get a guarantee that it works. With Octoink, the owner is a known and trusted forum member with a track record of standing behind his products and resolving issues.

Not to be forgotten: the CISS linked on the video's web page.
